Microsoft Shutting Down Xbox Live For Original Xboxes Despite Strong Halo 2 Community, Microsoft Shutting Down Xbox 1 Live Connectivity To "move forward"

In a letter released today, Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten
informed the Xbox Live members that they would be discontinuing the Xbox
Live service for original Xbox consoles. He said that they had reached
an impasse and were unable to make improvements they wanted to Xbox Live
while still supporting the original Xbox games.
Halo 2 , the popular online Xbox 1 shooter, is still frequently played
by a large community of gamers (despite there being two more Halo games
released since) and they'll likely be the most affected by the move to
shut down Xbox 1 Live support.
It's also worth noting that this will also affect Xbox Originals which
are downloadable Xbox 1 games that one can purchase and buy via Xbox
Live for the Xbox 360. While you'll still be able to buy and download
Xbox Originals, any online component will be disabled.
Xbox Live, which launched in 2002 for the original Xbox, was the first
successful online gaming platform for home consoles. SegaNet for the
Dreamcast and the Network Adapter for the PS2, although released
earlier, were never as successful or as popular as the original Xbox Live.
The reason for this change? One is likely the size of the friend's list.
In 2005, users discovered that the Xbox 360's version of Xbox Live still
only supported 100 friends maximum. Microsoft blamed the backwards
compatibility with the original Xbox 1's Xbox Live for the limitation,
as well as other features, like clan support.
With the original Xbox getting it's Live support cut it's likely that
we'll see some technical improvements to the service, like a bigger
friend's list and perhaps clan support.

Microsoft SideWinder X4 Gaming Keyboard Announced Microsoft’s SideWinder X4 Offers 26-Key Anti-Ghosting Which Will Count in Battle; Game On!

Gamers out there come out, come out wherever you are. You re entitled
for a break and you might as well check out a new gaming device while
you re pausing your favorite title. Microsoft has come up with a brand
new SideWinder keyboard the X4
which should help you accomplish your quests and kill your online
opponents even faster than the keyboard you re currently using.
The SideWinder X4 keyboard comes with the industry s most advanced
anti-ghosting technology. In other words you ll be able to press more
keys and combine them as you see fit in order to respond faster to the
action on the screen in front of you. Does that sound like something you
could go for? With games that require lots of buttons to control the
actions of your character, and yes I am thinking about World of Warcraft
right now, a keyboard like the X4 could come in handy.
The anti-ghosting technology has been developed by the Applied Sciences
Group and it will let you press up to 26-keys at once. Although you
might never require that many buttons to press at once, will you?
Steven Bathiche, research manager at the Applied Sciences Group at
Microsoft had this to say about the X4:
We re always looking for new and novel ways to enhance people s
interactions with their PCs. We know that ghosting can be a problem for
gamers, so we wanted to develop a way to eliminate this issue and
improve the overall gaming experience, and we ve succeeded with the new
anti-ghosting technology in the SideWinder X4 Keyboard.
The software knows exactly what keys you pressed and it will send the
appropriate signals to the game. Therefore all your combinations will
initiate an action on the screen and you might just have an edge on your
rivals. The keyboard also comes with features like macro recording, mode
and profile switching and adjustable backlighting.
The SideWinder X4 keyboard will be available next month and it will cost
$59.95. In case you absolutely need to have it then go ahead and
pre-order it at Amazon later this week when it will show up in Amazon s
inventory.

Wii Classic Controller Pro To Hit Stores in April The Nintendo Wii Classic Controller Pro Adds Shoulder Buttons, A Touch Of Class

Nintendo has revealed a new version of the Wii Classic Controller, a
slight upgrade over the previous version in both design and
functionality.ย The Nintendo Wii Classic Controller Pro features a new
set of shoulder buttons and a sleek design available in either black or
white.
The Nintendo Wii Classic Controller Pro adds a pair of shoulder buttons
on the front side, as well as dual-shock inspired handles that extend
from the bottom of the unit.ย The added focus on ergonomics,
console-standard buttons and the stylish black design make the leap from
the bulky, playful controllers of nintendo's past and streamlines them
in a fashion similar to the Playstation Dual Shock controllers.
The Wii Classic Controller Pro will begin shipping in April for $20 in
either black or white.ย They're also available in a bundle including
the forthcoming title Monster Hunter Tri, which can also be purchased
alone and used with the standard Wii Remote and Nunchuck.ย Wait, if the
new game works just fine with the Wiimote, why bundle it with a standard
controller that'll forego the fun of waving around the magic Wii wand?

YouTube Secures Live Sports Streaming Deal It’s Cricket Transmissions Now, All Other Sports to Follow?

YouTube is by far the number one video content provider in the world.
But that doesn t make it perfect. Not unless it s also able to stream TV
shows, featured movies and live sports events. Speaking of sports, it
looks like Google has sealed a deal that will bring live sports
broadcasting to YouTube.
Just yesterday we were talking about Microsoft s intention to offer ESPN
streaming to Xbox 360 users. It looks like Redmond is not alone into
this galloping quest of bringing more streaming services to consumers.
Sports are definitely popular with the population which means content
providers will always want to add a piece of that to their products.
Google s YouTube streaming of live sporting events might be just the
thing ESPN and Microsoft need in order to finalize their negotiations.
After all ESPN wouldn t want to lose any precious time and let the
competition take away its potential clients.
But don t get your hopes up regarding YouTube s upcoming live streaming!
You won t be able to watch the 2010 Winter Olympics on YouTube just yet.
Google only managed to get the rights of streaming cricket for now but
if it will prove a successful enough venture, other sports could follow.
Google will broadcast the Indian Premier League which starts this March.
The company will sign advertising deals with a major global sponsor and
with various local backers as Google hopes to bring in some extra cash
off the whole deal.
Will Google s sports streaming quest turn out to be profitable? Cricket
is very popular in some countries but then again there are other sports
that gather even more crowds. Hopefully the new service will bring
Google enough money in order for them to consider adding extra sports to
YouTube in the very near future. And if YouTube streaming is going to be
disappointing, there s always ESPN to watch, one way or another.

ESPN Streaming Comes to the Xbox 360 ESPN 360 Streaming Service Subscriptions to be Unveiled Soon?

While the Wii has only a Netflix streaming deal so far, and that s
fairly new too, the Xbox 360 seems ready to move to the ne
xt level. The gaming console might not be just a gaming console anymore.
Microsoft plans to let Xbox 360 owners stream content from ESPN which is
definitely great news to sports lovers.
Not only will they be able to play all the sports they want on a hot
console that s about to get motion control later this year but they ll
also be able to watch their favorite sports streamed straight to their
Xboxes.
Microsoft is said to be in talks with the Walt Disney Company in order
to seal the ESPN deal. A new Xbox 360 streaming service could emerge
soon, the ESPN 360. Available from high-speed Internet providers, the
new streaming service will let you watch ESPN live all for a monthly fee.
The specific costs and the names of the providers are still a mystery.
According to sources involved in the negotiations the deal is not yet
imminent so it might take a while until Xbox 360 fans will be able to
check out ESPN 360 whenever they get bored from all that extensive game
playing.
In the following years we will probably see the transformation of the
console into something a lot more powerful than a simple gaming device.
Capable of offering lots of multimedia services, the consoles will draw
the attention of large networks which will want to bring as much content
as possible to those connected living rooms. And where s content there
will be commercials which means that large corporations will definitely
be interested into advertising inside this newly created ecosystem.
Where will it all stop? We can t really say but we ll be here reporting
how the Xbox 360, the Wii and the PS3 become the home entertainment
weapon of choice for many consumers. What do you think about this new
emerging trend?

Sony Adding TV Tuner To PS3 Sony Japan Releasing Add-on DVR Peripheral for PS3

Since the Playstation 2 and later, Sony has always envisioned the
PlayStation (2 and 3) as being at the centerpiece of your home
multimedia setup, with its Blu-Ray/DVD capabilities, as well as the
other digital media playing abilities it has. Following Sony Europe's
lead, Sony Japan is releasing a TV tuner add-on peripheral for Japanese
PlayStation 3s.
The Sony Torne will offer Japanese gamers the chance to record and
timeshift (think DVR) TV programming. It'll be able to record TV content
directly to either the PS3's internal HDD or to an external HDD attached
via USB. It will be able to record TV shows at any time – even if
the PS3 is being used for gam
ing, watching Blu-Rays, or even turned off.
The PSP has been big for Sony, and they've included that with their
plans. If you save the video files from the Torne onto a Sony Media
Stick, you can view it on a PSP. Likewise, if your PS3 and PSP are on
the same network, you can wirelessly stream content from the Torne to
your PSP for wireless viewing. Obviously, this is a well-developed
product. Sony hasn't missed any steps here.
A similar add-on called PlayTV was launched in the UK in 2008 and
Australia in 2009. Like the Torne, it provided DVR like functionality to
the PS3, and has been fairly popular with the PS3 crowd. The PlayTV also
allowed you to stream content to the PSP, and even, a few Sony Ericsson
phones.
While the Sony Torne will be released in Japan in March 2010, North
America has been strangely left out of any such DVR add-ons. TV Tuner
add-ons have been rumored for the Xbox 360 for some time, but so far, no
such devices have come to fruition.

Nintendo DSi XL Coming To Europe in March Nintendo's Enlarged DSi XL Will Hit European Stores On March 5th

After an initial announcement back in October, Nintendo has announced
European shipping dates for the Nintendo DSi XL.ย The Nintendo DSi XL
features new dual screens with nearly twice the surface area of the
original Nintendo DSi, as well as a larger, pen-style stylus.
While shipping dates have not yet been announced for North
America, the Nintendo DSi XL will ship in Europe on March 5th, 2010.ย
The new version of Nintendo's immensely popular portable gaming console
provides little more than a size upgrade over the original DSi, but this
change is quite significant.ย The Nintendo DSi XL features dual screens
measuring 4.2-inches diagonally, twice the size of the screens on the
DSi.ย The stylus on the DSi XL is larger as well, about the same size
as a standard ball point pen.ย The DSi XL will ship with two pre-loaded
titles, Dr Kawashima's: Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition and
Dictionary 6 in 1 with Camera Function.
Pricing for the Nintendo DSi XL has not been announced for either the
European or North American versions, but our European friends are the
first to have an official ship date for this enlarged handheld.

Audi Dashboards Getting NVIDIA Tegra Treatment Future Audi Models Getting New Tegra 2 Graphics Processor

This year's Consumer Electronics Show is over, but we still have news
coming from Vegas. In the spotlight today are A
udi and NVIDIA who have announced a partnership for future car models to
use the new Tegra 2 graphics processor to power those stylish dashboards
that get your eyes.
According to the German car maker, starting 2010, all Audi models will
feature a third-generation multimedia interface system along with
technology advances to provide even more sophisticated graphics for the
brand's customers. And that's where the new Tegra 2 processor steps in
for both its GPS offering and basic menu systems. It not only provides
faster, clearer, more specific information, there are also richer than
ever 3D visuals, along with a 10x less power consumption.
This advanced technology allows motorists to get clearer, more
specific information faster to help them navigate to destinations and
points of interest on their journeys. And it delivers information
motorists need in an integrated fashion through their vehicle's systems
further helping them to focus on the road, said Audi in a statement.
For those who were wondering, the 2011 Audi A8 will indeed run on
NVIDIA's processors.
And yes, if anyone over at Audi cares, we're in for a test drive guys.

Netflix Heading To Nintendo Wii? Netflix CEO Said Chances of Netflix Streaming Heading To Wii "Good"

Netflix has easily become the most popular video rental service in the
United States, through both its DVD rental mailing service and it's
online streaming service. While they also stream to extenders like the
Roku, one of the bigger extender portions of Netflix's streaming share
is the current-gen video game consoles, like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Last October, we reported that Netflix coming to the Wii was
'confirmed'. While we haven't heard anything about it since then, the
Netflix CEO, during an interview at the D: All Things Digital event at
CES told interviewer Peter Kafka that the chances of getting on the Wii
were excellent .
Video rentals are nothing new to the Wii. In November, we reported on
the launch of the Wii's Room channel in Japan where users could rent
TV episodes and movies. That service is provided by Nintendo in Japan,
where Netflix has no presence. Unlike Netflix' all-you-can-eat plans
where they allow unlimited viewing for a monthly fee, the Wii's Room
charges small prices (from $0.30 to $5.65) for each rental.
One roadblock to the Netflix streaming possibility is the fact that the
Wii doesn't support HD playback. Netflix supports HD streaming to media
extenders (Roku, Xbox 360, PS3, etc.). The Nintendo Wii is no technical
powerhouse and cannot support 1080p. Some in the blogosphere have raised
the question as to if consumers on the Wii would bother with non-HD video.
One solution could be the rumored Wii 2 or Wii HD – a new
console rumored from Nintendo for months now that would support 1080p
video output. Such a device could support HD streaming from Netflix. For
now, Wii users will have to enjoy their Wiis, sans Netflix streaming.

EA Game Servers To Face Mass Cull EA To Shut Down 25 Game Servers – Madden 09, Nascar 09, NBA Live 09 & NFL Tour Servers Set for the Chop

EA may have attempted to address the financial issues that plagued them
last year by loosing over 1,500 employees in November alone but now, in
a bid to reduce operating costs still further, EA have confirmed that
they are to close down 25 game servers during February and April of this
year seeing game servers for the likes of Madden 09, Nascar 09, NBA Live
09 and NFL Tourย permanentlyย shut down.
As one would expect, EA are being pretty sensible as to exactly what
game servers to close down in an effort to reduce overheads whilst
affecting as few gamers as it possibly can thus a number of titles to
see their game servers cease operation are fairly aged titles. That
said, there s a few surprises here " the discontinuation of game server
support for the Madden 09 probably being the one that ll see the
greatest degree of consternation from what are know to be a pretty avid
fan base.

iGUGU Gamescore Puts PC Games On TV New Controller With Trackball and Keyboard Lets You Wirelessly Play From Your Sofa

iGUGU's website says very simply right from the beginning, the keyboard
and mouse which is designed for writing letters and spreadshees sic
using a 14-inch monitor. I'm sure a lot of PC game
rs (myself included) would disagree with that. Regardless, the iGUGU is
a new gadget that will let you play PC games on a TV.
The iGUGU is comprised of two parts, the first being a
receiver/transmitter that connects your TV and PC. It's like you'd
expect, with the PC end having keyboard, mouse and monitor inputs and
the PC side having TV outputs. The next part is the iGUGU Gamecore
Controller, which looks similar to a Xbox 360 controller (pictured
above). With the controller, you'll be able to play your PC on the sofa.
The iGUGU is coming in two models, mid-range and long-range, with the
mid-range providing 15 feet of wireless range and the long-range
providing a whopping 200 feet. No pricing or availability information
yet – but depending on how cheap it comes in, it could be a cheap
way to watch digital content from your desktop on your TV. You'll have
to make up your own mind about it's gaming applications, though.

Microsoft Confirms Project Natal Release Date for Holiday 2010 Project Natal Motion Control Gaming Coming to Xbox 360 by the End of the Year

While I am not happy with Microsoft for not announcing the Courier at
CES 2010, I must admit I can be at least relieved to see that Project
Natal is coming this year. Redmond has confirmed it but unfortunately
for us we re not going to see it before the end of the year.Project
Natal, that motion sensing device needed to turn on motion control
gaming on our Xbox 360 consoles is going to be available in stores this
holiday season. You re in for a long wait so you d better get ready for
it. Save some money, write an early letter to Santa and hope for the
best this next Christmas. While no pricing details have been announced
during the Microsoft keynote, the device is going to cost less than $100
and I assume that most Xbox 360 owners will want to get it later this year.
Project Natal, along with Sony s own motion control device, could
deliver a significant blow to Nintendo s Wii but it s too early to say
if the new gadgets are going to become bestsellers. Project Natal relies
on motion-sensing cameras and various sensors which coupled with the
much needed software updates will turn our body movements into in-game
responses. Natal will work with all Xbox 360s sold to date so you won t
have to upgrade your console in order to get it.
Besides confirming Natal for the 2010 holiday season Microsoft also
announced a new service for the Xbox. The Game Room should bring you
over 1,000 games in the next three years which means that each week you
re about to get lots of new titles. Using the new service you ll be able
to engage in combat over the Xbox Live network with your fellow
colleagues. What s interesting about the new service is that PC gamers
will also be able to compete against friends on bots platforms.

New Sony PS4 to Run on Multi-core Processors PlayStation4 to Ditch the Cell Architecture for Multi-Core CPUs

All big players in the console gaming industry, Sony, Microsoft and
Nintendo are looking for better ways to meet with their customers'
needs. One of the companies rumored to be working on a new system, Sony
is supposedly ditching the Cell architecture in their current
PlayStation 3 in
favor for a multi-core processor that will bring a bit more horsepower
to those looking for a more challenging environment.
According to the Japanese from PCWatch one alternative would've been a
combination between Cell and Intel's new Larrabee chipset (that should
be released in 2010 as the core of a consumer 3D graphics card), but
Sony abandoned the idea and is now considering a more mainstream
multi-core processor for the upcoming PlayStation 4.
Other than being a snappier setup the new design is also expected to
make developing a lot more easier on the new console and promises to
keep away from those greater than average problems that developers
have reported until now.
Speaking of the upcoming PlayStation 4, the new console should be
released either late 2012 or early 2013.

Simpsons Arcade Game Coming to the App Store iPhone and iPod touch to Get Simpson Arcade Game

The Simpson Arcade game is by far one of my all time favorite arcade
games, and I have played a few in my time. And this particular arcade
game is coming soon to an iPhone or iPod touch near you. That s what I
call good news, especially at this time of the year.EA Mobile is
apparently working hard on the iPhone version of The Simpson Arcade. EA
Mobile says that the game is a throwback to the actual arcade game
from the early 90s. You ll get to play as Homer, one of the most reco
gnizable characters of the Simpsons series, and you ll be racing down
the streets of Springfield in order to get a donut. On the way you ll
have to throw down with lots of evil people that want to stand between
you and your precious donut. I m pretty convinced that those evil
characters will also have a secret agenda so kick their ass with no remorse.
My favorite character is Bart Simpson and I m already sorry I can t pick
him out. Homer can punch, kick, belly-flop and butt-slam his evil
enemies but I d trade everything off for a mean Bart Simpson with a
skateboard in his hands.
Although Homer seems really strong, you ll have to closely monitor his
health bar. You ll certainly hate seeing him die just as he gets closer
to his objectives. Luckily for us, Homer can earn various power-ups on
the way which will bring to life other members of the family to help him
deal with the enemies. On top of fighting the bad guys all the way to
the final objective, you will also be playing various mini-games
including the popular Slap Homer game.
Personally I can t wait to get my hands on the game. I m already a big
fan of the show and I wouldn t mind virtually slapping some Springfield
dudes whenever I get the chance. EA Mobile hasn t announced actual
availability dates for The Simpsons Arcade game but we re expecting it
to arrive in the near future.

Nintendo Wii SUPREME Is Made of Diamonds & Solid Gold Golden Wii SUPREME Costs £299,995.00

This isn t the first time I ll tell you not to buy a Wii anymore, but
this time I am really going to insist against buying the Wii SUPREME in
the picture above. Yes, it s a special edition Nintendo Wii but no, it
doesn t bring anything interesting to the table when it comes to
performance. It s going to offer you the same gaming experience like a
regular Wii console. What s special about the golden
Wii in the picture here is the fact that it s covered in solid 22ct gold
which is definitely not a feature I ll be looking for in my next console.
The Nintendo Wii SUPREME is definitely the most unique and the most
expensive in the world. It takes six months to make one and it
requires 2,500 grams of solid 22ct gold. The front buttons are made of
78 x 0.25ct flawless diamonds which total 19.5ct. Only three such
consoles will be made and they will each cost pound sterling299,995.00
or almost half a million dollars.
I think I have just made my point and I shouldn t have to tell you why
it s not worth buying such a golden console. Let s look past the price
for a second and assume that we have that much cash lying around the
house. For the sake of conversation we will also assume that we love our
gadgets to be covered in as much bling as possible. Should we, in this
case, purchase a golden Wii console?
Of course not! The Wii is already obsolete. As much as I love the idea
of motion controlled gaming, I hate the overall performance of the Wii.
The Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 are going to support motion
controlled gaming too in 2010 and at that point Nintendo won t have a
competitive console anymore.
So if you re really looking into covering a console in diamonds and
solid gold, better wait for the Wii 2 and hope that it will come with
better specs and features or chose one of the consoles available for the
competition. Or turn back in time and order a golden Wii two years ago.

Sony Adding 3D Games, Motion Controller In 2010 Sony's 2010 Plans Include 3D Gaming, Motion Controls, PlayStation Store

Sony has big plans for the PlayStation 3 in the upcoming new year, as
they plan to release some big new initiatives that t
hey hope, will boost sales and popularity of the PlayStation 3 console.
All of this comes out of an interview that Sony exec John Koller had
with magazine GamePro.
In one of the worst-kept secrets of gaming, Koller revelaed that Sony is
working on motion controllers to compete with the Wii and Microsoft's
upcoming Project Natal. The runaway mainstream success of the Wii has
got Microsoft and Sony scrambling to capitalize on the motion controller
ย craze – and Sony plans to enter that space in 2010. Koller
boldly claimed that Sony's motion control tech will be used in family,
shooter and sports games, and even said I think Project Natal and the
Wii are going to have trouble matching.
Koller also said that a goal of the PlayStation Store is that UMD-based
PSP games will be released – same day, Sony hopes – as
digital games on the PlayStation Store for PS3 users. As for 3D gaming
– Koller barely mentioned it other than it was a one of their
'pillars of focus' for 2010. He did mention something about placing you
as a consumer into the game physically, which is a bit odd, and
probably won't happen in 2010.
At any rate, Sony has a lot of plans for their PlayStation 3 console in
the upcoming year, and with the recent price drop, this could drive more
interest in the console.

Sony Launches Digital Comics Service On PSP Digital Comics Store On PSP Lets You Buy Comics, Open To Americans, British, Australia

Today, Sony launched their PSP Digit
al Comics Store for customers in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and
South Africa. The store will offer comics from Marvel and other comic
book publishers.
The Comics Store will be apart of the PlayStation Store, and will allow
users to purchase and download digital copies of their favorite comic
books. Publishers that have signed on are Marvel, IDW, Titan, iVerse and
2000AD. Nothing from DC, Dark Horse, Vertigo (my current favorite) or
Wildstorm, but they could always be added in the future.
The service has dropped forย maintenanceย reasons at the time of print,
but will be back up soon, according to Sony. The price of the comics
depends on it's popularity and age.
The reader offers a AutoFlow where the screen will automatically zoom
and focus on the action happening on the screen, and will let the users
listen to music saved on their PSP while doing their comics reading. Oh
yeah, and comic-crazy Canadians will be getting the service soon, too,
as Sony promised it will be coming next year to the Great White North.

ODROID Gaming Handheld Unveiled Android-powered Gaming Handheld Revealed, Shipping Soon

ODROID, the only Android-based gaming device, quietly started taking
orders some time ago, and now, more pictures and information have been
released on the upcoming platform, and according to their website the
handheld will begin shipping 'soon' to developers.
The first ORDOID's sold will be developer kits, which will feature a
debug programming board, a USB cable to connect the ODROID to a PC,
along with some SD cards and the technical schematics of the device.

units. It seems that ORDOID is trying to get developers up and running
before the handheld hits wide consumer release.
The ORDOID's stats are impressive, and are considerably more powerful
than the Sony PlayStation Portable (which admittedly, turns six years
old next year). The ORDOID's stats are as follows: 3.5 inch touchscreen,
Cortex-A8 833MHz processor and 512MB DDR2 of RAM. AndroidandMe was
pleased with theย announcementย that the ORDOID will support 720p video
output via a HDMI cable.
The ORDOID will also have WiFi and Bluetooth support.ย The ORDOID is
shipping 'soon' with the developer kits, and will cost you $350. No
timeline or costs for the fullscale consumerย versionย have
beenย announcedย yet.

Official Wiiย accessoriesย that have been a different color than white

MotionPlus, as well.
The colored new WiiMotes will be unleashed on Americans on Feb. 14th,
2010, a perfect Valentine's Day gift if your special someone likes
