Amazon to Replace Cracked Kindle 2 Screens, Free Of Charge Kindle 2 No-cost Replacement Pending Approval

Amazon have found themselves trashed in a $5 million class-action
lawsuit, because the Kindle 2 screen is prone to cracking. However, to
shake off legal action and to prevent their good reputation to go down
the drain, Amazon have accepted to replace the cracked screens in its
Kindle 2 e-book readers and the Kindle DX e-book readers free of charge,
instead of the $200 fee they used to ask for repairs.

With a $359 price tag when first launched, Amazon's 6-inch Wireless
reading device was dropped to $299 to boost sales. But if we do the math
and see that the $200 repair price was actually increasing a customer's
cost by 67% percent on something that Amazon seems to be responsible
for, as amazing as it may be, Kindle 2 doesn't sound like a good option
anymore.

For now, people who have filed the lawsuit against Amazon are asking the
company to refund all their money, pay treble damages, and pay fees
associated with the lawsuit. We'll have to see if Amazon's move of
replacing the cracked screens is going to do any good or if they'll have
to actually pay for the whole fiesta.
