Open-PC Is A Completely Open-Source Nettop PC Open-PC Features Open Software, Open Spec Hardware

Do you want to enjoy the pleasures of a small, low-power consumption
nettop but don't want to use the evil Microsoft Windows? Perhaps you
even have issue with buying an ASUS nettop since it would have Windows
pre-installed and Redmond would still be getting a share of money from
it? In that case, openDesktop.org has
something for you, the Open-PC built with all open source software and
open spec hardware.
The team behind open-PC bills their nettop as the first PC built by the
community for the community. Thankfully, it isn't as bad as some
community-designed products we've seen. It will come with a KDE/Linux
operating system pre-installed and configured to work with the machine.
All of the software installed is 100% free, and it only uses free
drivers for the hardware. On the hardware side, the openDesktop team
only used parts with complete technical specifications, as provided by
the manufacturers , were used.ย It isn't a super small and thin nettop
that we've seen from ASUS or some others, but it does use a micro-ITX
case which should be small enough for most consumers. Overall, the case
doesn't look that bad.
As for the specs, it's running an Intel Atom N330 processor (clocked at
1.6GHz), featuring 3GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD. Graphics are being
provided by the processor and everything is running on an ASRock
motherboard.
They're asking โEUR359 for the Open-PC, which includes a โEUR10
donation to the KDE project to make you feel good inside. The Open-PC
will start shipping at the end of February 2010 .

Dell Adamo Hits a Three Digit Price Tag Dell Adamo Admire Now Available For $999

The Dell Adamo line of luxury laptop computers has undergone a price
drop that brings them closer to an affordable reality.ย The Dell Adamo
Admire will be available for $999, while the flagship Dell Adamo Desire
drops $500 to $1,799.
For PC laptops, its tough to find a product as sexy as the Dell Adamo.ย
While the steep prices of the Adamo laptops were out of reach of most
consumers, they're now not far off from the comparable Apple and HP
laptops thanks to this price adjustment.ย The Dell Adamo Admire now
sells for just $999, the first of the line to fall under four figures,
while the Dell Adamo Desire has dropped from
$2,299 to $1,799.
The Dell Adamo Admire features a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor,
Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB DDR3 RAM and a 128GB solid state drive.ย
The somewhat sexier Dell Adamo Desire features a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2
Duo, Windows 7, 4GB RAM and a 256GB SSD.ย Both units feature a
13.4-inch WLED display, a full-size backlit keyboard, a 1.3MP camera and
roughly 5 hours of battery life standard.ย While these stats don't
really fetch such high prices, the design of the Dell Adamo laptops is
the reason for the premium.ย Now that these prices are bit more
consumer friendly, it's hard to argue that they're not worth the money.

Alienware M11x, M15x & M17x Pricing Details Available Alienware M11x Priced from $799; M15x & M17x Starting at $1,199 & $1,799

CES 2010 brought us new gaming rigs and among them we ve particularly
noticed Alienware s new portable gaming beasts. The M11x is the smallest
laptop made for gaming by the company while the M15x and the M17x are
larger, better suited for gaming machines.
The M11x, although very small, packs quite a punch. This
gaming-dedicated laptop comes wi
th an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Intel GMA graphics and a NVIDIA s
GeForce GTS 335M card, three USB ports, HDMI connectivity, DisplayPort
support, mini FireWire, VGA, 3G support and a battery capable of
offering you either 6.5-hours on GMA graphics or 2 hours when using the
NVIDA card.
At CES 2010 the M11x was said to cost less than $1,000. And it looks
like the starting price is $799 which is a great number for a portable
gaming rig. It looks like the price tag has been leaked although the
official product page still shows a Guess the Price contest.
But the M11x might not be your favorite choice as Alienware has two more
angry beasts demanding some heavy-duty gaming. These are the M15x and
M17x laptops which have received the new Intel Core i3, i5 and i7
processors.
The M15x is available starting at $1,199. Besides the three new CPU
versions from Intel you ll be able to choose between a 512MB NVIDIA
GeForce GT 240M or a 1GB GeForce GTX 260M video card, a 1,600 x 900 or a
1,920 x 1,080 15.6-inch WLED panel, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and a 250GB HDD
or 128GB/256GB SSD.
The M17x will be available starting from $1,799 and it will offer you an
Intel Core i7-920XM processor, dual 1GB GeForce GTX 280M GPUs or dual
Radeon Mobility HD 4870s video cards and a Blu-ray drive on top of the
specs available for the M15x.
It s decision time, folks! Will you wait for the M11x or go for a M15x
or M17x instead?

EVGA W555 Motherboard Revealed New EVGA Motherboard To Sport DDR3 Memory, 7 PCI-E Slots

EVGA had their new W555 monster motherboard on display at CES earlier
this month but little details were released on the motherboard and there
weren't any clear pictures of it. Now, EVGA has released the full specs
on the motherboard and given out press shots and well… it's a monster.
For starters, the W555 is big… really big. It's bigger than the
standard E-ATX or SSI m
otherboard form factors, meaning, don't bother unless you have an ATX
Full Tower computer chassis. Second, EVGA has included two processor
slots. They're of the LGA 1366 variety, which Intel's slot for their
Core i7 chips.
For memory, they have included 12 DIMM DRR3 slots. No word on what the
maximum supported memory for the motherboard will be, but it'll be high,
for sure. The motherboard includes seven PCI-E expansion slots, so you
could, theoretically have seven graphics cards if you found ones small
enough. More realistically, you'd have three or four of the higher end
cards, considering they each take up the space of two graphics cards.
As website bit-tech.net reports, both ATI and NVIDIA's drivers for 4x
GPUs are rather… testy, so you might want to hold off on ordering
those four new GTX 295 cards. As for everything else the W555 does, it
does it big. The motherboard includes 8 SATA ports, including 6 running
at 3Gbps and 2 running at 6Gbps. They've included a IDE socket, as well,
for the old-school folks.
Under the EVGA-branded heatsink on the motherboard is a Intel 5520
chipset and two nForce 200 graphics controllers. Despite the nForce, the
W555 will be certified for both NVIDIA's SLI technology and ATI's
Crossfire technology.
No word on pricing or a release date, but this one will easily cost
upwards of $500. Word has it that EVGA will be pushing this monster as a
workstation motherboard, but expect some enterprising computer
enthusiast to buy it so he can run Crysis at 200 fps.

Toshiba Rx Medical Tablet Concept Shown Off Tablet For Medical Market Features Wipe-Clean Chassis and QWERTY Docking Station

Tablets have really taken off in the health care industry, and the only
place they were ever successful before manufacturers started putting
Android on them and sellin
g them as big MIDs. Designer Geoffrey Cooper has designed an incredible
looking concept device for Toshiba that would be ideal for the health
care industry.
The Toshiba Rx Medical Tablet, would feature an all-white body and a
huge multi-touch screen. The body would be wipe-clean safe, in case
some… bodily fluids were spilled on the device, it could be easily
cleaned up. It would feature a carrying handle on the back so nurses and
doctors could easily lug it around their offices.
The docking stations which would feature a full QWERTY keyboard would
replace desktop computers around the hospital as doctors and nurses
would just plug their trusty tablet companion into the docking stations
and use them in place of the desktops. No word on if Toshiba is actively
working on this concept, or if it will ever come out.
The traditional tablet PC that are running full versions of Windows
have largely been unpopular and sold poorly in the consumer space, but
they have done well in the health care enterprise field. This, of
course, has been compounded by the big push in the United States for all
health care institutions to digitize and standardize all medical records
in the country.
At any rate, the Toshiba Rx Medical Tablet is likely just a concept at
this point, and may never come out.

New Acer Aspire Predator G Gaming Desktop Available in Japan Acer Aspire Predator G7750-A64 to Retail for $3,170 in February

I m not a big fan of desktops anymore although I still do understand
their purpose on Earth. Furthermore, a gaming rig like the new Acer
Aspire G Predator G7750-A64 can t be simply ignored, can it? Acer has
decided to upgrade the G7710-A41 model launched last year and the new
machine will be available in Japanese stores this February for the
astronomical sum of $3,170.
The new Predator G desktop is pretty much similar to its older brother
although it does come with some interesting new specs like the Core
i7-960 processor clocking at 3.20GHz and the new dual NVIDIA GTX 260
video cards. But here s a complete specs and features list for you:CPU:

Now if I was a serious gamer, I d be very interested in getting this
baby ready for some hardcore online play, but since I am not, I ll let
you guys figure out how to save all that cash needed to purchase one.
And you still have some time to do it until Acer announces worldwide
availability dates. Oh and did I mention that the price of the new
Aspire Predator G gaming desktop doesn't include the cost of a proper
gaming-oriented monitor?

Origin Genesis Desktop Revealed High-End Boutique Desktop Is Fast, Pricey, Featuring Core i7 and Radeon 5970 graphics

Origin is a new startup boutique PC manufacturer who is offering
high-end performance machines with the best parts and awesome case paint
jobs, at a high price, of course. Their new creation, the Genesis,
combines all the best parts but comes in at a steep, steep price of
$5,000 – and that's just the starting configuration.
For processors, Origin included an Intel Core i7-920 processor, which
has been factory overclocked to (3.8GHz). The motherboard of choice is
EVGA's premium X58 board, and they've thrown 6GB of DDR3 in for good
measure. For graphics, you can't beat their solution. The ATI Radeon HD
5970 is currently the world's number one graphics card, and Origin has
included TWO of them – that's right, this system features two ATI
Radeon HD 5970 cards together in Crossfire.
For storage, they've thrown in an 80GB SSD for boot files, as well as
two 1TB HDDs for hard storage. A Blu-Ray drive is thrown in, and it'll
come with Logitech's elite gaming mouse and keyboard, the G9x and G110
– respectively. Unfortunately, the PC only has on-board audio. I'm
sure the EVGA X58 has great audio, but it's a little off-setting when a
$5,000 PC doesn't have a standalone audio solution.
The whole thing will have a water-cooling solution for the processor and
will be packing a 1200W ThermalTake PSU. The case is the Corsair
Obsidian, which has been popular with PC enthusiasts for a bit now, (I
find it a bit ugly, but each to his own). Like most of these boutique
companies, Origin is offering their own custom panic jobs.
Tech blog HotHardware put the Genesis through their benchmarking pace
and well, it's fast (as you'd expect from a $5,000 computer). For the
benchmarking nerds out there, it got a 17,000+ score on the latest
3DMark benchmark test while its Alienware contemporary got only 8,378.
Most PC gaming enthusiasts like to build their own computers – but
if for some reason you don't want to, and have $5,000, the Origin
Genesis is for you. It's now shipping.

Maingear F1X Gaming Destkops Revealed New Hardcore Extreme Desktops To Feature Factory Overclocked Core i7s, 12GB RAM

Maingear has added three new high-powered gaming desktops to their
stable of desktop offerings. The new high-end F1X line will be offered
via TigerDirect and will feature Core i5 and Core i7 processors, as well
as extremely cutting edge graphics cards from ATI, including dual ATI
Radeon HD 5870 cards.

The Maingear F1X 200 will be the lowest-price entry in the F1X line.
They're asking $2,250 for it, and it will feature a Core i5-750
processor (factory overclocked to 2.93GHz), 8GB of DDR3 memory, dual ATI
Radeon HD 5750 cards (total VRAM of 2GB), and will have 1TB of Storage.
The next level up is the Maingear F1X 500 (price – $3,100), which
will have an Core i7-590 processor that's factory overclocked to 3.3GHz.
It'll have an insane 12GB of DDR3 RAM and will feature dual ATI Radeon
HD 5770 1GB cards, and it'll have a 1TB Black Edition hard drive from
Western Digital.
The flagship Maingear F1X 750 (price – $5,150) will feature a Core
i7-975 processor that's overclocked to 3.6Ghz. It'll feature the same
12GB DDR3 as the 500-machine, and will have dual ATI Radeon HD 5870
cards. It will have an 80GB SSD drive for boot files, and a 1.5TB HDD
For hard storage. It'll also feature a Blu-Ray drive.
All of these computers will feature Maingear's X20 water cooling system.
Unlike some water cooling platforms, it'll be a maintenance free, closed
loop design. An enthusiast user could build their own computer with the
same specs for a lot less, but you're also buying into Maingear's
warranty and service program, which, they say is the best in-house
support team in the country. All of the new Maingear F1X computers are
now shipping from TigerDirect.

Samsung Adding Three New All-In-Ones New All-In-One PCs To Feature MultiTouch Touchscreens, Core 2 Duo, Korean Only Release

Samsung is planning to unleash three new All-In-One PCs on their native
South Korea. One of the new computers will come equipped with an Atom
processor and a small screen, while the other two will come with full
sized Core 2 Duo processors and multitouch touchscreens.
The first new model, the Samsung MU100 will have an undisclosed screen
size that will be smaller than 20 inches and will not be a touchscreen.
The computer will ship with an Intel Atom N450 Pine Trail processor, and
2GB of RAM. It'll also have Windows 7 Home Premium, on-board graphics,
and 320GB of HDD space. Not exactly appealing, but it'll likely come in
at a cheap price.
The second model, the Samsung MU200 will feature a 20-inch touchscreen,
and will come with an Intel Pentium T4400 – yes, they still make
Pentiums. 2GB of RAM will be included, and graphics will be supplied by
a NVIDIA GeForce 310 card, with 512MB of VRAM. Unfortunately, the
GeForce 310 is not apart of NVIDIA's next-generation card line up, it's
simply a rebadged GeForce 200-series card, so you'll miss out on Fermi
and DirectX 11.
The high-end model of Samsung's new All-In-Ones is the Samsung MU250.
It'll feature an ample 23-inch touchscreen that is capable of full HD
1080p resolutions. It will come with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600
processor, which is designed for notebooks and other lower power
solutions. 3GB of RAM is included, as well as a 500GB hard drive and the
same GeForce 310 graphics solutions.
While these models are shipping exclusively to South Korea, no word on a
potential European or US release – and no word on what Samsung
will charge their prospective buyers.

Apple to Launch 22-In Touchscreen iMac This Year? 22-In Touchscreen iMacComing in 2010 from Apple

We have a new Apple-related rumor for you today and it s neither tablet-
nor iPhone-related. If you ask me, it s definitely a nice change of
scenery to talk about other hot upcoming Apple products. And this time
around we re talking about the next iMac version, a rumored 22-inch
touchscreen all-in-one iMac computer.
According to leaks it would seem that Quanta working closesly with
Sintek Photronic will manufacture the new 22-inch machine which is supp
osed to go on sale later this year. While Quanta will actually construct
the new computer it s Sintek Photronic the company that will make the
touchscreen panels. The new iMac will probably not replace any of the
existing models and will sell together with the 21.5- and 27-inch models.
It s probably about time Apple started to make its own touchscreen
all-in-one desktops. Its competition already has such models on sale and
since touch-friendly user interfaces are more and more popular, Apple
will not want to miss out on its potential touchscreen iMac buyers.
But before purchasing a 22-inch touchscreen iMac you d better wait for
Apple to fix its yellow screen issues. Chances are that you also have a
friend or acquaintance that has purchased a yellow screen iMac from
Apple and returned in the end after not having been able to fix the
display problems. And since Apple hasn t really announced the new iMac
yet, you will be waiting for the new beast for a long while.
Although I was planning not to make any tablet reference here, the fact
that Apple is considering launching a 22-inch touchscreen iMac in 2010
only further confirms the fact that an Apple tablet is going to be
presented on January 26/27. After making touchscreen devices popular
with the first iPhone, Apple will probably bring this technology to even
more products in the coming years. Will you purchase a touchscreen iMac
in the future?

NEC Reveals Office-Friendly Mate ME Desktop New Japanese Desktop is 'green', Core i5, SSD storage

NEC may be a very minor brand in Europe and the US, but in their native
Japan, they're a major player in the technology space. NEC's new Mate ME
is an enterprise-aimed workstation PC that boasts a 30% energy cost
reduction compared to previous iterations of the Mate ME.
NEC also brags that in addition to the lower power cost, 75% of the
parts of the Mate ME are completely recyclable, which is prob
ably a bigger environmental achievement than the power consumption.
NEC has achieved the power decrease with a completely new motherboard
from previous PCs in the Mate line, as well as solid-state drives
replacing the hard drives. NEC has included software on the computer
that will let users monitor their power usage. The walls of the computer
are made with environmentally friend bioplastic .
This computer doesn't sacrifice performance for the environment. The
Mate ME has better performance over previous NEC workstations thanks to
the inclusion of Core i5/i7 processors and the speedy quick SSD drives.
As for the full specs, the default model will come with a Core i5-560
processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 160GB SSD, a DVD super drive, and
Windows 7 Pro as the default operating system. The base Mate ME will
cost Japanese salaryman types ยฅ171,000 ($1,883). NEC also introduced an
enterprise-aimed notebook called the VersaPro, which also features
similar Core i5 stats, and also is environmentally friendly – at
least, compared to other computers.

VIA M'SERV Home Media Server New Home Media Server Has Two SATA Bays, SSD Support

VIA released information on their newest creation, the M'SERV S2100 Home
Media Server. The M'SERV comes in a sleek case and VIA has promised low
noise and power consumption rates. It measures in at just 10.2-inches
long by 4.7-inches tall, and can provide up to 4 TB of data storage.
While it will function as a NAS if you need it to, it also can function
as more specialized things like a network attached video recording or
log server, and it'll also have support for virtual server apps. On the soft
ware side, it'll support Windows XP, Vista and 7, as well as Windows
Server 2008. For the open-source types, it'll support a wide-range of
Linux distributions, and FreeBSD.
The whole thing is powered by a VIA Nano processor, which is clocked at
1.3GHz. It'll support two slots of DDR 2 RAM. For hard storage, it has
two SATA drives which are mounted within the case and have power ports
as well. A Compact Flash socket inside case also lets you mount a single
SSD drive, but VIA's press release says that SSD can only be used as a
bootable drive for the embedded OS – not for storage.
On the back, the M'SERV will have two Cat6 Ethernet ports, and three USB
ports. For the security minded, the M'SERV will come with VIA's AES
encryption engine that provides on-the-fly data encryption. This M'SERV
is being aimed at small business and home power users, but VIA hasn't
given any details on a release date or pricing, yet.

CyberPower Revealing Gamer Xtreme 1000, 6000 Desktops Low Priced Gaming Desktops, Core i3, ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics

Notebooks are becoming more and more popular with everybody and are
slowly replacing desktops, but CyberPower has released two desktops to
reward the desktop faithful. The Gamer Xtreme 1000 will be a
budget-oriented gaming rig, while the Gamer Xtreme 6000 will be a little
higher up the chart.
The CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 1000 will feature an Intel Core i3-530 proce
ssor, along with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and graphics supplied by NVIDIA's
GeForce GT 220 card. Storage will be provided by a 500GB HDD. This
gaming rig will come in at the low low price of only $650. While it's
not a $4,000 elite machine, the Gamer Xtreme 1000 will play older games
well enough.
The CyberPower Gamer Xtreme 6000 is a touch more powerful than it's
little bother. It comes with the Core i3-540 processor, and CyberPower
upgraded the RAM to 8GB of DDR3. Graphics processing is done by the ATI
Radeon HD 5870 – a very solid, high end card, if I do say so
myself. It'll also include a 1TB HDD and an optional Blu-Ray drive. The
Gamer Xtreme will set you back $1490.
Both of these are lower-end machines, and CyberPower, like most boutique
computer builders, will build you a custom computer with your exact
specifications, but these two machines aren't bad, especially if you're
on a budget. Both machines will come equipped with Windows 7 Home
Premium, and you can order them now.

Dell Studio XPS 8100 Desktop PC Boasts Core i5 & i7 Processors Promises a ‘More Immersive Media Experience’

Dell has updated its range of Studio XPS desktop PCs with the new Intel
Core i5 a
nd Core i7 touting Dell Studio XPS 8100 which is billed as offering a
more immersive media experience thanks, in no small part, to packing THX
TruStudio PC technology, GPU options up to an ATI Radeon HD 5770 or
Nvidia GTX 260 and, by no means least, optional 3D visual output.
The new Dell Studio XPS 8100 Desktop PC, as with the vast majority of
Dell s offerings, has a considerable range of user optional available
but, if you want to kit out the XPS 8100 with the highest configuration
available you can factor in up to 16GB of DDR3 1333MHz SDRAM, dual 1TB
SATA HDDs in RAID 0 configuration, Blu-ray Burner, 1792MB Nvidia GeForce
GTX260 graphics, TV tuner with remote, and integrated WiFi (yes, WiFi is
just anย optionalย extra which, lets be honest here, is pretty lame).
If you re happy not to opt in for all the bells and whistles and go for
the lowest spec Studio XPS 8100 available you ll find the price coming
in at a pretty reasonable $649 but, as you ll appreciate, the moment you
start getting in and adding extras or going for upgrades you ll see the
overall cost escalate (potentially) pretty steeply.
