Nokia to Make Symbian-based Tablets & Netbooks in the Following Years Symbian Tablets & Netbooks Confirmed by the Symbian Foundation?

Some really surprising news comes all the way from the Symbian
Foundation. It seems that chief executive Lee Williams has almost
confirmed Symbian tablets and netbooks plans in a recent interview.
Without revealing actual launch dates or product names he did say that
it s very likely that, in the next year or two, such devices will be
created.
Are you surprised? Happy? Well whatever you re feeling right now you ll
have to wait a long while until Nokia, or other manufacturers for that
matter, are ready to offer us a dependable tablet or notebook running
Symbian.
What Nokia must do for now is come up with a new Symbian OS version
capable to resurrect their smartphone business. Current Nokia
smartphones aren t bad, don t get me wrong, but the possibilities of
current Symbian versions seem finite. We want more, don t we?
Nokia has already confirmed that Symbian v3 and v4 are coming out later
this year while Symbian v2 will be entirely skipped. Therefore the first
smartphones running Symbian v3 are going to arrive probably before the
holidays while Symbian v4 devices will be available early next year.
Symbian v4 might be one of the candidate OS for future Nokia netbooks
and tablets as it s supposed to introduce a whole new graphical
approach for the UI. Nine different types of displays are going to be
supported which doesn t sound that bad, does it.
But it s not only looks and appearances that we re looking for in
Symbian future versions. We also want them to be fast, support
multitasking, get us where we need to be easier than any of its
predecessors, and add a little magic on top of everything. Is that too
much to ask from a mobile platform?
Hopefully Nokia, and other manufacturers, will find a way to launch
their own tablets next year. Not because we need tablets and notebooks
running Symbian OS but because some competition in these particular
fields wouldn t hurt. And if Nokia manages to do that with their
proprietary OS it will also mean that their future Symbian v3 and v4
smartphones will be terrific machines.
What s the last Symbian-based smartphone you purchased?

Motorola Zepplin Clearly Seen In Pictures New Entry-Level Android Phone Coming To T-Mobile In March

We at TFTS have had our eyes on the phone known as the Motorola Zeppelin
for a very long time. Tech blog Gizmodo got some very clear shots of the
device, which you can see above, and we've also received a new set of
rumored specs for the new Android h
andset.
Rumor and hearsay put the specs of the Motorola Zepplin with the
following stats – a Qualcomm processor that runs at 528MHz, 256MB
of RAM, 512MB of flash storage, a 3.1-inch touchscreen seems likely and
fits with the pictures. Rounding out the specs is the alleged
5-megapixel camera.
Speculation has the phone shipping with Android 1.5, with an Android 2.1
OTA upgrade coming sometime in Q2 2010. As all of Motorola's devices,
it'll be wrapped up with Motorola's MOTOBLUR UI.
As for the release of the device, I highly doubt it'll ship with its
codename of Zeppelin, and the experts at AndroidandMe are predicting
that Motorola will add it to their CLIQ line, and that'll be marketed as
a entry-level device, with a price of $150 with a two-year contract.
As for even more Motorola Zeppelin rumors, everything seems to be
pointing towards T-Mobile releasing the phone in the United States on
March 10th. It's been confirmed that Motorola has purchased commercial
space during Super Bowl XLIV, the biggest TV commercial day in the
United States all year. It could be that Motorola is planning to unveil
the Zeppelin, or other new Android phones, during their ad space, which
only cost them $2.8 million for 30 seconds.

HTC Incredible Leaked Pictures, Information Leaked On HTC's Next High-End Smartphone

Pictures and information have hit the internet blogosphere regarding a
new smartphone coming from HTC. The HTC Incredible as it will
allegedly be called, has been revealed in a few large pictures, as well
as a paragraph of text regarding the specs of the phone. It will run on
Verizon and appears to be the typical high-end smartphones that HTC is
known for.
The reported stats of the HTC Incredible are that it'll include a
Snapdragon processor. The leak didn't have the exact speed, but reported
that the phone is fast, really fast , which leads us to pin it as
having a 1GHz processor – or faster. The phone will have 256MB of
RAM. No exact measurement on the screen size, but pocketnow.com, who
broke the story, is estimating either a 3.5- to 3.7-inch screen, which
would put it at the same large size as the Nexus One.
The source who got their hands on the phone said the screen is very
vibrant and estimates that it's an OLED screen, which we have to concur
with, considering the leaked pictures of the device. The device also
will feature an optical mouse pointer at the bottom of the device, (or
as RIM calls them, an optical trackball). The phone features a digital
camera, along with dual LED flashes.
On the software side, the phone was shown running Android 2.1, wrapping
up in HTC's Sense UI. The source told pocketnow.com that the device will
be carried by Verizon, which implies a CDMA radio inside of it. It's
certainly an 'incredible' looking device. No word on a release date or
pricing.

LG GD880 & Qisda QCM-330 Handsets to Arrive from Vodafone Vodafone to Launch Plethora of New Phones Including the LG GD880 & Qisda QCM-330

Vodafone is going to unveil soon lots of new devices. Among those we ll
find two interesting handsets from LG, the GD880 and from Qisda, the
QCM-330. Vodafone might make everything official later this month during
MWC 2010 but in the mean time we have plenty of features for you.
The LG GD880 is a new LG creation which is said to sport a 480 x 854
touchscreen display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and a 5-megapixel camera with HD
video recording. As you expect pricing details and actual launch dates
are not known yet but Vodafone should tell us more in the very near future
The Qisda QCM-330 is an even more interesting handset. Sure we re not
used to see Qisda creations every day but this one seems really special.
The handset will surprise you with a generous 4-inch panel capable of
1,280 x 1,024 resolution, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, accelerometer
and a 3-megapixel camera. The home key indicates that we re in the
presence of Android here but Vodafone will have to make everything
official before we get too excited.
Ready to choose between the GD880 and the QCM-330? Well don t do that
just yet since Vodafone will have other handsets coming your way in the
coming months: the Vodafone 2010 Compass, the Vodafone 360 Krystal, the
Vodafone 737 Quincy, the Vodafone 545 Larry, the Vodafone 137 Sting, the
Vodafone 534 Shilpa and the Mio Valinor GPS device.
Pricing and actual launch dates are not available at this time and we
have no idea which markets will these new models be available in. It s
probably safe to say that most European countries will get them first
with other markets to follow in the upcoming months.
Can we expect Vodafone s brother to also start selling the LG GD880 and
the Quisda QCM-330 at some point in the future? There s no indication
that Verizon, or other U.S. carrier for that matter, will get these two
devices so it might be a while until the GD880 and the QCM-330 hit U.S.
stores.

Samsung S5620 Monteo Smartphone Leaked Samsung's Latest Smartphone Features 3-inch Touchscreen, Still Comes With TouchWiz

Images of Samsung's latest smartphone creation have hit the internet
today. The alleged S5620 Monteo will feature a sharp design and a
3-inch touchscreen. Samsung has never done particularly well with their
smartphone offerings, between their touchscreen models an
d the business-aimed QWERTY-featured BlackJack line.
While the phone hasn't been officially announced, and ergo, there aren't
official specs, the leak and his pictures have revealed a few things
about the upcoming Monteo. Samsung will still be sticking with their
dreadful TouchWiz UI OS. Granted, they could of improved it, but my
personal experience with that operating system is that it's horrible.
You've got to wonder why Samsung won't put Maemo or Android on their
phones. Even the upcoming touchscreen optimized Windows Mobile 7 might
be a better change.
Back to the Monteo, it'll feature a 3G/GSM connection, WiFi support,
aGPS and 200MB of internal memory. A microSD card slot exists for
expanding the memory. It'll feature a digital camera, but no flash
whatsoever. My reservations about TouchWiz aside, the phone is
beautiful. Disregarding the smaller touchscreen, the phone gives the
iPhone and Nexus One a run for their money in the looks department.
Samsung was one of the first Asian countries to begin producing mobile
phones, as they released their first mobile phone in 1988. Since then,
they've been successful with so-called dumbphones , and they achieved
$2 billion in net income in 2007. Despite that success, Samsung has
never had much luck capturing the hearts of the tech savy with their
smartphone offerings.
No word on when we can expect the S5620 to be officially announced, or
any details on pricing or availability.

Mobiado Classic 712ZAF Luxury Phone Out in the Open Mobiado Launches New Handset; Still Too Expensive for Our Pockets

Mobiado has a new handset for us and, like always, it s a brand new
luxury phone which we won t be able to afford anytime soon. Not that we
want luxury phones that aren t capable of really smart features and cool
tricks, do we?
This time we have the Classic 712ZAF model to look
at, so get ready to wonder why some people will pay lots of cash for
this machinery. The phone is made by aluminum, sapphire crystal and
stainless steel which, when placed together, they will conveniently
spell luxury for you.
The aluminum frame is apparently crafted from aircraft aluminum to
build a strong/stiff yet light body. Then it is polished or filtered
glass bead blasted and anodized coated in order to produce a rock hard
ceramic coating for the toughest of uses. Although since this is a
luxury phone I can hardly imagine anyone to make it go through the
toughest of uses.
Furthermore the design is completed with large sapphire crystal plates
while all the buttons and screws are made from stainless steel. The
712ZAF will be available in six colors: Black, Black Satin, Blue, Grey,
Red and Silver.
Now that we know how the whole thing will look like it s time to see
what specs we can expect from it. So here s a quick specs and features
list for the Mobiado Classic 712ZAF: Quad-band GSM Triple band WCDMA
2.2-inch QVGA display 5-megapixel camera with flash and video recording
GPS Web browser and email support Music player with support for multiple
audio files.
The specs aren t that bad either but would you really move away from a
touchscreen-based smartphone to a luxury one?
Speaking of pricing details the official press release lacks those
details for now. But you can expect the Mobiado Classic 712ZAF to cost a
lot more than you d actually be willing to pay for it.

Motorola Google Phone Apparently Confirmed Are We Looking at the Google Nexus Two, Already?

Sick and tired to hear about the good and the bad for Apple's iPad, we
just caught wind that Motorola is apparently working on a Google phone
(dare we call it the Google Nexus Two?). Announced by the company's CEO,
Sanjay Jha, during a conference call meant to discuss their quarterly
financial results, it looks like the Google-badged smartphone will be
similar to HTC's Nexus One.
Chief exec Jha has failed to give us anything official regarding
hardware, features or just how similar the new device it's going to be
compared to the Google Nexus One, and also managed to keep tight-lipped
regarding the handset's availability.
But we can speculate. Right? Some rumors have it that the Motorola
Google Phone is going to aesthetically related to the Droid and the
MOTOROI, while other think it's going to be more like the Motorola
Shadow — that slick QWERTY slider we've been seeing around for a
while now.
Given the success the company had with the Droid, a Google Nexus Two by
Motorola would prove right not only from the user's point of view, but
from a business aspect, too.
Needless to say that we'll keep you posted when we get more on that.

European HTC HD2 Has as Much RAM as the U.S. Version Did HTC Hide RAM in the European HTC HD2 Intentionally?

You will surely recall our earlier post on the HTC HD2 in which we
showed you how the U.S
. HD2 will be a slightly upgraded European version. Since the HTC HD2 is
going to be available in the USA a lot later, an upgrade seems like the
regular way to go especially with Windows Mobile 7 ready to be unveiled.
But what we found out today about the European HTC HD2 version is pretty
disturbing especially if it proves to be true. It looks like HTC
intentionally hid 128MB of RAM on the initial HTC HD2 version. The U.S.
model will come with 576MB of RAM on board while the one sold in Europe
should only have 448MB of available RAM.
According to some users the Euro HD2 also has 576MB of physical RAM
available but only 448MB is currently usable. The extra 128MB is
apparently unlockable and HD2 owners have been trying to figure out
exactly how much RAM their handset hides.
Some have taken the HD2 to pieces in order to check the insides of the
phone for themselves while others tried to challenge their RAM with as
many apps running at the same time as possible. It looks like there s a
leaked ROM that will unlock the hidden RAM but we won t advise you to
start dismantling your HD2 now.
What reason could HTC have to hide a significant portion of the RAM of
one handset. If everything gets proven it will raise even more
questions. Why not let consumers enjoy all the features of the HD2?
Maybe HTC doesn t want European consumers to upgrade their HD2 to
Windows Mobile 7 since the specs of the phone won t correspond with
Microsoft minimum requirements.
HTC hasn t yet commented on the situation and hopefully they will have a
very good explanation for all this trouble. In case you own an HTC HD2
and live in Europe, hit us up with details about your handset s RAM.

Apple iPad to Use Micro SIM for 3G Connectivity What Is a Micro SIM & Why Do I Need It?

Apple s iPad is indeed a revolutionary device that will inspire others
to create similar products. It remains to be seen if we really need this
kind of a mobile device in our lives. Can it really complement our
smartphones and laptops? Or is Apple simply trying to squeeze some more
money from its faithful customers through other channels?
The iPad has been conceived to answer to our various needs during the
regular day but it would be a worthless machine without its Internet
connection. After all we need Internet to buy stuff from iTunes, the App
Store and the iBook Store. We need an active connection to check the
news and write emails. Therefore an iPad without Internet can basically
be used as a really expensive digital picture frame.
Besides 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity the iPad will come with 3G support.
AT T will be the official provider in the USA while international deals
will be announced this summer. But in order to take advantage of those
cheap 3G data plans we need to insert a SIM card in the iPad.
And since the iPad is so thin it looks like Apple decided to go for a
new Sim card, the micro SIM card. Do you really need it? Well I have
just explained that the iPad is not worth buying unless you know you ll
always have at least a Wi-Fi connection present. If you want 3G support
too then you d better make sure your carrier supports micro SIM cards.
The 3FF SIM card, or the micro SIM, is 52% smaller than a regular SIM
card so instead of a 15 x 25mm card you get a 12 x 15mm one. It s still
a GSM SIM so it will work in most markets.
For some reason Apple found regular SIM cards too big for the iPad which
is really weird since the iPhone, a much smaller device can perfectly
fit a regular SIM inside. Or maybe size doesn t matter. What matters is
that the iPhone can fit any SIM card, not only from AT T. But what if
the competition doesn t have micro SIM cards? In other words the iPad
will be available unlocked but not every carrier in the world will
actually have 3FF SIM cards for it. Just the ones signing partnerships
with Apple for the iPad.
It will be interesting to see if International carriers are ready to
invest in new micro SIM cards for their future iPad customers. And by
the way, your regular SIM cards won t fit inside, just in case you ll
want to try one.

Walmart Nexus One Listing An Error, its Official Walmart Nexus One Not Planned, Teaser Page a ‘Technical Error’

Yesterday we reported that Walmart appeared to be gearing up to stocking
Google s Nexus One smartph
one and we reported it with good reason being that Walmart (Walmart
Wirless) actually put a page up stating that the Walmart Nexus One was
coming soon but now Walmart have backtracked and denied that they
intend to offer up the Nexus One at this time .
Apparently the listing that, as can be seen by the screen shot provided
below, was a technical error though, it has to be said, listing a
product as coming soon strikes us as being an odd technical error to
make.
Due to a technical error, this item erroneously was displayed on our
site … said Walmart.com spokesman Ravi Jariwala. We have no
plans to carry Nexus One in Walmart stores or online at Walmart.com at
this time.
At a later time then, perhaps? Either ways, we find it incredulous for a
vendor to go to the effort of making and publishing a product page
listing said product (aka the Nexus One) as coming soon only to then
announce it isn t. Someone somewhere has undoubtedly got a stern talking to.

Luxurious Python iPhones For the Rich Fashionistas Python Inspired iPhone by Stuart Hughes

Remember Stuart Hughes, the Liverpool based company that has managed to
get our eyes and trash our pockets with their luxurious devices that
only the uber-rich could afford? We're talking about the iPhone 3GS
SUPREME, the solid gold PS3 SUPREME or the golden Nintendo Wii designs
that has been released last year, or Nokia Supreme, the most expensive
Nokia handset that they released this year. Well it looks like the guys
are at it again, this time pimping an iPhone with some python skin.
Not sure how appealing that's going to be for those militating for
animals rights, what we know is that Stuart Hughes has partnered with
David De Nizza of Milan and releasing a luxurious Apple handset that
features Python skin on the back of the case — expertly furnished
by hand over the original casing. On top of that, there's a 24ct gold
bezel with Swarovski crystals, sapphires and diamonds.
We use genuine Snakeskin from the Python originating from Indonesia ,
which we import using the appropriate documents(an expert permit of the
exporting country, import approval of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and
Industry) issued by authorities designated by the Washington Convention.
Although not as expensive as their previous work, the pimped iPhone will
set you backย between pound sterling1,695 and pound sterling6,495,
depending on the color as there are hundreds of choices to go with.

Nokia X6 16GB Gets Official New Nokia X6 Phone to Feature 16GB Storage Space, No Comes With Music Support, More Color Options; Available This Quarter

It looks like yesterday s rumors become realit
y today. We ve seen the Pentax new Optio camera get leaked yesterday and
today we got official confirmation of their existence. Likewise the
Nokia X6 16GB emerged yesterday and today the new version of the X6
became real.
The X6 16GB is to the X6 what the Nokia N97 Mini is to the N97.
Basically a cheaper version that will still pack some neat features
inside. As we told you yesterday the new phone will come with 16GB of
storage space available to suit your needs. Unlike the regular 32GB the
new model will not have Comes With Music support but you ll still be
able to download all the music tracks you want on a pay-per-song basis
from the Nokia Music Store.
Last but not least, this music- and gaming-oriented device will come in
new colors. The X6 16GB will be available in black, white, white with
pink highlights and white with yellow highlights. The regular version of
the X6 is available in blue with white or black with red.
In case you re starting to consider buying any version of the Nokia X6
phone then here s a quick recap of the X6 s features:3.2-inch capacitive
touchscreen with 640 x 360 resolution 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss
lens and dual LED flash Tri-band WCDMA and quad-band GSM connectivity
HSDPA support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 1320 mAh battery Ovi Store and Ovi
Maps with free Navigation Symbian S60 5th Edition
The X6 16GB is going to cost around โEUR350 Euro, which is โEUR100
cheaper than the regular price of the X6 32GB. The handset will be
available this quarter and it will probably head to more countries than
the X6 32GB model as the later one was mostly intended to be sold in
Comes With Music markets. So what do you say? Are you purchasing any X6
version soon?

ViewSonic VPC08 MID/Phone Revealed ViewSonic's Smartphone Runs Windows XP, MID-Style Design

Previously, we've seen the Bphone and the XPphone, and now we can add
the ViewSonic VPC08 to the list of UMPC-style smartphones. The VPC08,
like the others, fits into a UMPC-like form factor, and is running a
full version of Windows XP. ViewSonic, who is better known for their
monitors, is the most well-known company we've seen producing these things.
Previously, the VPC08 was called the XPphone by some tech sources, but
that name is actually the name of its own product, being made by ITG
(see the deep link above). As for the VPC08, it'll be packing an Intel
Atomย Z500 processor (clocked at 800MHz), which is actually the fastest
processor we've seen in these things – as usually they come with
some flavor of an ARM processor.
The phone will have two displays, the 4.3-inch one you can see above
that will be used to run the computer part of the phone, and a smaller
2-inch one that will run the phone software. We haven't seen any
pictures of this mysterious smaller screen, we're presuming that when
the device is closed, it'll be on the 'lid' of the phone.
The phone specs feature 512MB of RAM, and an 8GB SSD drive for storage
(you've got to wonder when it goes from being a SSD drive to just a
stick of flash memory they threw in). It'll operate on GSM bands, and
the phone will be 3G capable, and WiFi will also be an option.
The phone will likely only be released in China, and will have a
recommended price of ยฅ4,800 ($704).

Motorola MOTOSPLIT Phone Features Bizarre Folding Keyboard Android-powered MOTOSPLIT Prototype To Feature Split Keyboard

Today CGI renders surfaced on the internet of a bizarre looking Motorola
prototype that will allegedly run Android. The phone, dubbed the
MOTOSPLIT, will feature a wild split QWERTY keyboard design where the
keyboard is split in half, and hides behind the phone when not in use.
Tech blog Engadget, who broke the story, didn't disclose where they got
it from, but their source did tell them that the phone is coming out in
Q3 of this year, and will be offered through AT T. This fits in with
confirmed reports that AT T wants to offer 5 Android phones this year
and Motorola plans to release 20-30 Android phones this year.
Don't just write this off as somebody's crazy Photoshop imagination
– Motorola has shown their taste for unique phone designs with the
Blackflip, a phone that was leaked last year. The Blackflip features a
QWERTY keyboard that instead of sliding behind the screen, flips around
to face away from the screen.
The source claimed that the device will be powered by a Snapdragon
processor. The Nokia E70 was similar to the MOTOSPLIT renders, as it
featured a split QWERTY keyboard.
Both the Motorola Blackflip (which was shown in actual, hands-on
pictures) and the MOTOSPLIT (which admittedly is just renders at this
point), are alleged to be coming on AT T. It's possible that AT T is
looking to make an entry into the Android market with some interesting
entries. No confirmation from Motorola that this device is real.

HTC Supersonic Revealed, Apparently HTC Supersonic Image Offers Purported First Glimpse of Sprint's Up & Coming Smartphone

We always run the risk of being shot down by a number of readers
whenever we offer up apparently genuine leaked imagery of gadgetry yet
to be officially unveiled but considering the interest in the HTC
Supersonic, and the source s insistence that
this is indeed the real McCoy, we felt compelled to offer up what is
purported to be the first live shot of the already much hyped HTC
Supersonic which, as you probably already know, is set to hit Sprint
sometime in the (near?) future.
Admittedly the image isn t of the greatest quality and hence offers us
little insight as to what the HTC Supersonic will bring to the table but
it is widely assumed (key word) that the HTC Supersonic will offer up
specifications similar to those of the HTC HD2 with its touchscreen
AMOLED display, purported to measure in at 4.3 , housed in a
particularly thin body.
Additionally, for those that don t mind us reporting on speculation, the
Supersonic is said to run Android 2.1 with HTC Sense UI whilst it ll
additionally tout WiMAX capabilities " which would figure being that
the HTC Supersonic is headed to Sprint (in mind of Sprint s 4G push).
Other features yet to be officially confirmed include a 1GH Snapdragon
processor, integrated FM radio tuner and a 5 megapixel camera.

Google Set to Fix Nexus One 3G Issues Nexus One 3G Fix Expected Next Week, But 3G Network Coverage & Performance Also Cited As A Potential Factor

We reported back at the beginning of
the month concerning a fair number of Nexus One owners reporting issues
with the Nexus One s 3G reception and now its been confirmed that
Google, HTC and T-Mobile are working on a fix with engineers apparently
having narrowed in on one particular (unnamed) issue that could affect
3G Nexus One reception in specific cases .
Our engineers have uncovered specific cases for which a software fix
should improve connectivity to 3G for some users, says a post on the
Nexus One support forums. We are testing this fix now, initial results
are positive, and if everything progresses as planned, we will provide
an over-the-air software update to your phone in the next week or so .
As stated above, no specific detail as to what this fix is, or what it
specifically addresses (hence giving an insight as to quite what s up)
has been provided and, interestingly, it would seem that though a fix is
confirmed as pending part of the problem could be users being on the
edge or outside of 3G coverage which a product fix cannot address.
Of course there are many on the support forums that would argue
otherwise (having tested 3G reception with alternative handsets when
experiencing difficulties with the Nexus One s 3G reception) so it ll be
interesting to see just how this fix goes down when it s (expected to be
offered) sometime next week – though a specific date has not yet
proven forthcoming.
Of course, we ll be keeping out eyes on the support forums and will
report back on user feedback once the aforementioned update is available.

HTC Supersonic Unmasked with Powered Up UI HTC Supersonic Fully Revealed in First Clear Leaked Image

Earlier today we brought you what was touted as being the first true
(ie, non-faked) image of the HTC Supersonic but, let s be honest here,
the image offered little in the way of detail and, even as far as leaked
images go, was somewhat on the poor side " so how about a rather more
clear image of the HTC Supersonic which, thanks to being powered up at
the time, shows the UI in action?
There s not really anything more we can add in terms of detail than we
ve already brought you (1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 4.3 AMOLED touchscreen
display and, of course, WiMAX support) but, hell, this image far exceeds
the former in terms of quality so, here it is

Archos Preparing Phone-Tablet Archos Phone-Tablet To Be Modified Archos 5 Tablet, 3.5G-GSM Connection, 4.3-inch touchscreen

French company Archos has long been making their MID-tablet devices but
at CES earlier this month, it was leaked by one of their third-party
accessory partners that they're planning to expand into the smartphone
market. It is expected that the Archos smartphone (which, was called
by the leak as a Phone Tablet ) will be a modified version of their
popular Archos 5 Internet Tablet.
While the stock Archos 5 tablet (which we covered here) featured a
800MHz processor, reports from CES say that the phone tablet will
feature an improved ARM processor that comes with a clock speed of 1GHz.
The phone tablet will have a screen size of 4.3-inches, which, I humbly
point out, is bigger than the iPhone or Nexus One. It will be running at
a resolution of 854 x 480.
It seems that the phone, like the Archos 5 tablet, will be running
Android. A smart move by Archos, considering that the growing app
library for the Android platform. As for the rest of the hardware, we do
know that it will be only 10mm thick, and will be equipped with a
3.5G/GSM cellular connection.
Everything else is a mysterious – but the non-phone version of the
Archos 5 tablet came with 128MB of RAM as well as 8GB of flash storage
for your media. The Archos 5 would be a strong iPod Touch/iPhone
competitor if Archos kept the ample storage in the phone. Blog SlashGear
is reporting that Archos will offer a choice between 16, 32 or 64GB of
memory in the phone.
No word or pricing, but the plan internet tablet is costing buyers $250.
Speculation on the internet expects Archos to unveil the phone at the
Mobile World Congress in Spain next month.
