interested to know that Sony's new HDR-XR520V Full HD Camcorder which,
apart from offering 1920 x 1080 resolution video capture also comes with
integrated GPS receiver, has just started shipping.
Sporting a 1/2.88 'Exmor R' CMOS image sensor with ClearVid array and a
3.2 touch panel LCD display, the Sony HDR-XR520V comes with a 240GB
hard disk allowing for up to 96 hours of high definition video capture
(in HD LP mode) or up to 168 hours of standard definition capture (in SD
LP mode) whilst also offering 12.1 megapixel still capture capabilities
and comes with 5.1 channel Dolby digital surround sound, Face Detection
and Smile Shutter technologies as well as active Optical Steady Shot
image stabilisation, 12x optical zoom (150x digital zoom) and, of
course, the aforementioned GPS receiver.
Billed as being 'an ideal choice for travelers', the Sony HDR-XR520V
camcorder's GPS receiver, apart from ensuring that the camcorder's clock
is consistently set to the correct time zone, allows for the geo-tagging
of videos and stills imagery which can consequently be searched by
location whilst working with an integrated map function allowing you to
gain a broad overview of when and where you've been active (especially
handy if you're on holiday and are looking to produce a video diary of
your travels in chronological order).
The Sony HDR-XR520V Full HD Camcorder with GPS Receiver, at the time of
writing, is yet to become available via Sony Style but has just become
available via Amazon where it'll set you back just shy of $1,500.
