USB drives (see related posts below), LaCie are set to offer their new
LaCie Data/Share SD/MicroSD card reader device that comes in two halves
accepting SD cards (the red half) and MicroSD cards (the white half)
which can consequently be read and written to as though you were using a
standard USB flash drive.
Personally, whilst the premise behind the design is pretty cool, it has
to be said that I'd have much preferred LaCie to have pushed the design
a little further - perhaps rounding it out to make it like a pill,
perhaps? It just seems a little plain in comparison to LaCie's previous
USB related products, such as the aforementioned ItsaKey, IamaKey and
PassKey USB drives. In fact, I'd even go one step further and say that
the design verges on being somewhat dull. Of course if this was not a
LaCie product we'd be no where near as picky, but our expectations, from
a design stand-point, are especially high when it comes to LaCie (we
hold them in the highest of esteem).
Notwithstanding the above, we don't doubt that the LaCie Data/Share
SD/MicroSD card reader will prove especially handy for those looking for
a SD/MicroSD card reader that's decidedly pocket-friendly and who have
PCs and/or notebooks/netbooks that don't feature integrated card
readers, however, at this stage there's no word from LaCie as to when
these will become available or, for that matter, how much they'll set
you back.
We'll keep you posted.
