Hot on the heels of their new Lumix DMC-FS15 and Lumix DMC-FS7 premium
ultracompact cameras, Panasonic have just also announced their new Lumix
DMC-LS85 compact which, unlike the aforementioned models, is very much
an entry-level camera aimed at the budget conscious looking for a basic
point and shooter. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85 digital camera comes with
an 8.1 megapixel CCD paired with a 4x Lumix DC Vario zoom lens, is
powered by the Venus Engine IV processing engine and comes with a
'large' 2.5' 230,000-dot high-resolution LCD display.

Naturally, as you'd expect, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85 comes with a
host of scene modes - Portrait, Scenery, Macro, Night Scenery, Night
Portrait, et al - as well as Face Detection (specifically capable of
recognising up to 15 faces), MEGA O.I.S (Optical Image Stabiliser) and
Intelligent ISO Control to combat shake and blur.

Powered by AA batteries for maximum convenience, the Lumix DMC-LS85
offers a burst shooting mode capable of three shots per second at max
resolution and a high-speed burst shooting mode which will snap up away
at 4.3 captures per second at reduced resolutions and will also capture
video at 848 x 480 at 30fps as well as VGA and WVGA 16:9.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85 entry-level compact digital camera will
become available from April 09 in silver, black and pink and will set
you back just shy of $120.
