Motorola MOTO W233 Renew Available via T-Mobile World's Leading Eco Friendly Cell Phone Ships

The new and decidedly green Motorola MOTO W233 Renew, which we offered a
heads-up about back at the beginning of January, and which we rank as
being the world’s most ecologically sound cell phone yet produced
(not an astounding observation considering the W233 Renew has the
accolade of being the first carbon-neutral mobile phone thanks to a deal
with Carbonfund.org), has, in line with expectations, just become
available via T-Mobile.

We covered the impressively green credentials of Motorola’s MOTO
W233 Renew back in out original posting - see: Motorola MOTO W233 Renew
Eco Friendly Cell Phone [Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles] - but just
by way of a brief reminder, the W233 Renew not only boasts a shell made
entirely from recycled plastic bottles but also comes with reduced
packaging (made from recycled materials, of course), paperless billing
and, if Motorola’s original press release still rings true, even
comes with a postage paid envelope with which you can post off the
handset the MOTO W233 Renew is replacing for ecologically sound recycling.

‘We are excited to offer T-Mobile customers the first opportunity
to purchase a mobile phone that takes the environment into account -
from the product’s design using recycled plastics, to reducing the
packaging material by 22 percent, as well as our partnership with
Carbonfund.org,’ said Jeff Miller, vice president, sales, Motorola
Mobile Devices. ‘Priced affordably, Renew makes it easy for
consumers to think about their impact on the environment when purchasing
a mobile phone.’

In terms of specifications - details that were very much lacking back
when we originally posted about the handset - the Dual Band GSM 850/1900
Motorola MOTO W233 Renew, which measures in at 1.37″ x 1.77″
x 0.58″, comes with a 1.6″ 128 x 128 resolution 65K color
display, integrated MP3 player, CrystalTalk technology noise reduction,
and ‘up to 2GB of removable memory’. Agreed, hardly mind
blowing specifications but you’ll not find us picking fault with a
phone that really has raised the bar in terms of environmental
friendliness (especially when you compare this with the half hearted
attempts to cash in on the increasingly lucrative ‘green’
consumer market: see Nokia N97 Eco Cell Phone [Smaller Box, No Charger,
Slap on Eco Tag - Sorted]).

The Motorola MOTO W233 Renew has just become available via T-Mobile in
the US for a mere $9.99 subject to a two year contract
