Lenovo IdeaPad S10-42312CU Atom Netbook Released [Lenovo S10 Availability]

Lenovo's first foray into the increasingly lucrative (and therefore
evermore competitive) realm of netbooks, the Atom/XP Home powered
IdeaPad S10-42312CU (or Lenovo S10 as it will no doubt be more commonly
known) has now been released.Weighing in at a mere 2.65 pounds, the
1.6GHz Atom N270 powered Lenovo IdeaPad S10-42312CU sports a (somewhat
netbook standard) 10.2' display offering a maximum resolution of
1024×600, comes with 512MB of RAM (further versions with increaser
RAM are expected) and a 80GB HDD as standard with, interestingly,
certainly at the time of writing, an SSD option being notable by its
absence. Certainly, as far as we are concerned, the lack of an optional
SSD seems to be lacking foresight as, whilst we understand that such an
option would see a marked increase in unit pricing, the reduction in
power requirements (and, therefore, the potential gains in battery
endurance) should be at least be offered to potential customers though
we would not be at all surprised if we see an SSD option rolled out in
the near future.

Aside from the lack on an SSD, further highlights concerning Lenovo's
IdeaPad S10 include pretty much all you'd expect from a netbook
including a built-in webcam, integrated Wi-Fi connectivity, a 4-in-1
card reader and a keyboard measuring in at 85% the size of a standard
laptop keyboard.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-42312CU is now retailing for around $440 though
it's a safe bet that a host of other variants of the S10 are set for
release (just look at the multitude of variants currently available when
it comes to Asus's Eee PC) offering greater RAM and HDD capacities as
well as (we hope) an SSD.
