It's been a while since I built anything using Lego and, at the time of
writing, I lack the child that would give me an excuse to purchase
(especially) Lego Mindstorm sets en masse on their behalf (solely for
their enjoyment, you understand) - but I certainly never got close to
building something quite as cool as Anders Sรธborg's DIY Lego Mindstorm
NXT Colour Scanner.Sรธborg's Lego Mindstorm NXT Colour Scanner employs a
HiTechnic color sensor capable of producing either 8-bit or 24-bit true
colour - though Sรธborg's Lego scanner also has a light sensor capable
of capturing grey scale images - up to A4 size, the resulting scans
being saved in BMP format directly to the NXT’s flash memory and
you can see it in action in the video below. Those of you interested in
building your own Lego Mindstorm NXT Colour Scanner will be pleased to
know that Sรธborg has been kind enough to provide comprehensive and
extremely well realised video slideshow instructions concerning building
your very own version via his site as linked.
