latest monitor in their Flatron range of displays , which appears to be
a 'greener' version of LG's W2252TQ, and which, according to LG's press
release, assumes the mantle of being 'the world's most energy efficient
monitor' in a market environment where consumers are becoming evermore
environmentally aware concerning their choice of consumer
electronics.Stated as offering a 'a 45% reduction (40W) in power
consumption, leading the way in environmentally friendly computer
screens' - though LG fail to make it exactly clear as to what
device/model they are using by way of comparison, which renders this
claim rather meaningless (a good 'headline grabber' none the less) -
their new 22' Flatron W2252TE widescreen TFT display consumes a mere 22W
of power in use which, all said and done, is fairly impressive. The
W2252TE offers a native resolution of 1680 x 1050, a contrast ratio of
10,000:1 - which, considering the power consumption, isn't unimpressive
- and comes complete with integrated circuitry allowing 4:3 aspect ratio
content to be displayed utilising the full width of the (widescreen)
display, though quite how this is achieved is not stipulated. Does it
merely crop 4:3 ratio content to fit the device's 16:10 format or does
it simply dynamically stretch content to fit (neither method being
especially good in practice as either you're going to miss elements of
the original picture or view it in distorted, and therefore wholly
inaccurate, dimensions setting proportions way off kilter).LG have,
however, been kind enough to at least tip us that their new Flatron
W2252TE TFT will become available sometime this August in the UK, though
they remain tight-lipped concerning the W2252TE's price point.
