basically an updated version of the StorCenter ix2 NAS dual-drive backup
and media-sharing solution.
So what s new in the box you ask? The ix2-200 maintains the compact
footprint of its forefather but comes in new flavors. You can expect
three models which will offer you 1TB, 2TB or 4TB of storage space
according to your precious needs.
Whether you want to use it in the office or at home, the new StorCenter
will do its job accordingly. Very easy to set-up, the ix2-200 brings the
following features to the business customer:
Device-to-device replication for business continuity and file recovery
iSCSI block-level access for efficient storage utilization
RAID 1 configurations for optimized data protection
Windows Active Directory support
New front panel QuikTransfer button for easy copying of selected files
User replaceable hard drives
Multiple IP security camera support
VMware certification for virtualization installations.
And in case you plan to take it home with you at the end of the day,
although it wouldn t make much sense moving it around when you can buy
two of them instead, the StorCenter will offer you the following
home-dedicated features:
A DLNA certified UPnP AV Media Server that makes the ix2-200 the
central repository for serving up all your movies, pictures, music and
other files to any compatible device on your network
Time Machine support for Apple computer backups
Built-in torrent support for file-sharing without the need for a
dedicated PC
Bluetooth capability for uploading all kinds of digital content from a
smart phone
Cooliris slide show plug-in allows for easy photo viewing
remote access to the ix2-200 from anywhere in the world
Since I have just suggested that you should get two devices, one for
home and one for your business, then you re entitled to find out how
much you re going to have to pay for a StorCenter ix2-200. The 1TB
version costs $269.99, while the 2TB and 4TB models will be available
for $369.99 and $699.99, respectively. American and European consumers
will be able to purchase the 1TB and 2TB versions right now while the
4TB NAS is coming your way later this month. Asian consumers will only
get the ix2-200 in November, so they can start fantasizing about it for now.
So what do you say? Are you ready to ditch that old ix2 in favor of the
brand new ix2-200?
