Hands On With Verizon's Samsung Omnia II Release Date on Verizon Not Yet Confirmed, Omnia II to Run Windows Mobile 6.1

A few weeks ago we managed to snatch a glimpse on Verizon's customized
Samsung Omnia II, today however, we got a better look at the high-end
smartphone. And as things are getting closer and closer to becoming
official, Big Red's Omnia II has made an informal debut showing both the
good and bad.

Samsung's latest US-bound smartphone is actually darker with a much
better balanced shade. Also on the bright side of things (literally) the
Verizon's Omnia II actually features an improved display that won't
cause trouble viewing it when it's too sunny outside. On top of that the
TouchWiz UI seems to be working without any glitches, just like
scrolling through menus.
Now for the bad part, rumors have confirmed that Big Red's superphoneย
is going to run Windows Mobile 6.1 instead of the recently released
Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. Don't ask us why because such a decision is
beyond imagining, but we're confident that by the time it hits shelves,
the new Samsung Omnia II will come with either 6.5 or will offer an
upgrade option.

Other than these all, Verizon s Omnia II is also expected to pack Wi-Fi
and Bluetooth (A2DP), a microUSB port and a microSD slot, a 3.5mm audio
jack, built-in GPS receiver with and an accelerometer.

Word is that the handset should release by the end of the month. We're
excited!
