Navigator. The device is the first product of the company and it s a
gadget meant to help you control various devices around the house.
The GlideTV Navigator will be compatible with various devices like home
theater PCs (HTPCs), Windows PCs and Apple Macs, AppleTV, Sony
PlayStation 3, Boxee and others. The device comes with a very
interesting design which will certainly stir interest among your guests.
It features a trackpad, backlit buttons and a wireless USB dongle.
If you have the general impression that this GlideTV Navigator is just a
fancy wireless mouse then you are almost right. The device acts as a
wireless mouse as it will basically offer you trackpad-based features.
Besides the trackpad you also have buttons to help you control volume
and playback and buttons for two-axis navigation. Other buttons like
Esc, Enter, Back and Function keys are also available and they can be
used to control various applications.
In case you could also use all the other keys available on a wireless
keyboard then you should know that an on-screen keyboard will also be
available for Windows users. The GlideTV Navigator also has to offer an
integrated search menu which comes with links to Google, Amazon Video on
Demand, Hulu, Netflix, YouTube and more. Needless to say, you will need
a connected device in order to actually use the Navigator for making any
searches. Both the on-screen keyboard and the search menu are
applications that have to be downloaded before you will be able to use them.
Do we really need this gadget or can we simply replace it with a
wireless mouse and keyboard? Here s what Chris Painter, the President
and founder or GlideTV had to say about the Navigator, a product that
won the 2009 Best of Innovations Award at CES 2009:
Up to now, consumers who wanted to connect a computer to the TV to
take advantage of digital content had to bring office equipment to their
living room, making the experience bulky and cumbersome. With the
Navigator, GlideTV brings simplicity to accessing internet-based
entertainment and ushers in a new era for computing in the living room.
The GlideTV Navigator is available for around $150 in various U.S. and
European markets so if you want a good looking mouse for your living
room, go grab it!
