9700 (aka BlackBerry Onyx), today we caught wind that a second carrier
from the US, the mighty AT T, is also considering to get their hands on
the smartphone by the end of the month.
The new Bold 9700, which is AT T's first 3G BlackBerry, is probably
going to be announced as Bold 2. Primarily a design-focused update, the
touchpad-driven handset is actually smaller and smoother making for a
much more attractive smartphone.
It comes with a more accurate optical trackpad to replace the trackball,
a slightly larger display that brings 480 x 360 resolutions and an
improved 3.2 megapixel camera. Other than that, there's also high-speed
3G browsing, Wi-Fi connectivity, visual voicemail and support for
corporate and personal e-mail options, and an upgraded BlackBerry OS.
Although AT T failed to come through with it, rumors have it that the US
carrier is going to release the BlackBerry Bold 2/Onyx/Bold 9700 on
October 21st. The same rumors mentioned that T-Mobile should get the
handset out in the wild, on the same day.
