By way of a brief heads up, Acer has just issued a voluntarily
instituting a safety recall of ย a number of specific Acer Aspire
notebooks due to what Acer term as overheating issues with specific
reference to Aspire AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG
notebooks manufactured prior to September 15 of this year.
Whilst Acer s recall notice is rather brief, it does state that they
have voluntarily instituted a safety recall program to proactively
replace the microphone cable in the affected units to eliminate any risk
of overheating as, according to their notice, he microphone cable may
overheat when extreme pressure is applied repeatedly to the left palm
rest which may lead to a malfunction resulting in the aforementioned
overheating issues.
Acer state that, should your Aspire be one of the above mentioned models
manufactured before September 15 09 you should locate your notebook s
serial number or SNID (the former being a a 22 digit alphanumeric code,
the latter an 11 digit numeric code, both of which are printed on the
white label on the bottom of your notebook " see image above) and enter
the resulting serial number on a webpage Acer have set up specifically
to deal with this issue which can be accessed here.
