authoritative sources the Kindle 2 is finally going to make its
official debut in the UK this month. Amazon hasn t made any official
announcement yet but according to existing rumors the eBook reader will
be properly announced sometime next week.
Apparently Amazon wants to launch the Kindle before the Frankfurt book
fair although that remains to be confirmed. Will we see the DX also get
announced for the UK or is Amazon bringing just the Kindle 2 over the pond?
Does it make sense to purchase a Kindle 2 at this point in time? The
Kindle has always been a popular Amazon gadget so naturally the Kindle 2
and the DX have quickly become best sellers too. But that could very
well change once three important gadgets will be available to the
public. Can you guess what gadgets I am referring to?
Michael Arrington from TechCrunch is working on the CrunchPad, a
netbook-like tablet that s going to arrive soon. It will be a great tool
to surf the Internet, blog and read your favorite books too. Apple is
going to launch its first tablet ever early next year, which is now
rumored to be a 10-inch iPhone-like machine capable to handle your
Internet needs while also acting as an eBook reader and a multimedia
tool. Wait, I have more! Microsoft s Courier is also a tabled, made by
Redmond s elite and running Windows 7 in the background. It offers two
7-inch screens and it will be perfect for all your online activities and
so much more.
These are three major players ready to enter this already crowded
business. So why shouldn t you choose either one of the three products
mentioned above instead of Amazon s Kindle 2 or Kindle DX? Sure you
would pay a little more cash but you would also get a lot more out of
those gadgets. The Kindle is a great reading tool, but so will these
three be. Add some screen color to that Kindle screen and I might just
reconsider. The only advantage Amazon has right now is the huge
collections of books that are ready to be downloaded to your Kindle. But
that will change too in the near future.
All in all, I wouldn t get the Kindle 2 at this point. I d rather wait
for one of those tablets to officially arrive before I spend my $299 on
the Kindle 2. That s pound sterling199 if you re buying it in the UK
later this month!
