are a community-based consumer products company that asks its users to
submit their product ideas for consideration and possible development.
If they're ideas are chosen for actual production the inventors get to
share in the profits and the fame. Interesting concept. Their latest
community inspired invention, the Quirky Split-Stick, takes the common
USB flash drive and gives it a dual personality.
The Split Stick is basically a double-sided USB drive. Using a slider on
the center of the drive, you can access both ends of the device giving
you the ability to physically separate the information that is stored on
the stick into two separate and distinct areas. According to the site,
…you can enforce the digital divide between office and personal,
home and away, yours and hers, g rated and x rated, or whatever else you
choose to separate.
The quirky Split Stick sports two 2GB retractable USB drives that are
built into one slim stick. Constructed of anodized aluminum and encased
in a protective rubber membrane (like a data condom, I guess) the Split
Stick is available in a range of colors including orange, blue, pink,
red, black, violet, grey, or green. Quirky claims that once they have
started shipping the units they will offer custom laser engraving as an
option so that users can label each end of the stick according to what
they want to store on it. Unnecessary but cool. The Split Stick is
listed at $19.99 and is available for pre-order at www.quirky.com.
