SATA Revision 3.0 Specs Official Doubles Transfer Speeds Up to 6 Gb/s

Speed has become a critical factor with today's storage, hence why
everyone is expecting the new SATA Revision 3.0 specifications to
become official. And the Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO)
consortium did just that. Backwards compatible with the earlier versions
but maintaining the low cost and low power requirements that made it a
hit , the new SATA 3.0 is expected to enhance support to multimedia
applications and to bring in lightning-fast transfer speeds of up to 6
Gb/s (six gigabytes per second, in case you thought you've read it wrong).

Meant for increased functionality, the new SATA 3.0 specifications will
feature a new Native Command Queuing (NCQ) streaming command that better
accommodates bandwidth-hungry audio and video applications, and a new
NCQ Management feature that allows host processing and management of
outstanding NCQ commands.

Featuring a small Low Insertion Force (LIF) connector for 1.8-inch
storage devices (including SSDs) and another one for 7mm optical disk
drives, the new SATA 3.0 proves that we're definitely boarding for a
fast flight …
