Johnathan Fatal1ty Wendel in the form of the Fusion-io ioXtreme PCIe
SSD which Fusion-io bill as 'delivering the kind of storage performance
once limited to the world's fastest supercomputers'.
The new Fusion-io ioXtreme PCIe SSD sports a PCI-Express x4 interface,
80GB of non-volatile capacity based on multi-level cell (MLC) NAND
technology and are designed specifically for use with high-performance
PCs (particularly high-ending gaming rigs) and workstations using 64 bit
operating systems whilst boasting a HD Tach 3.0.4.0 of 520 MB/s.
The ioXtreme supercharges high-end PCs and workstations. I predict
this technology will fundamentally change the way software is designed,
allowing developers to create a new class of applications that
seamlessly handle massive amounts of data, Fatal1ty said. Imagine
playing the most intense game, working on complex 3-D graphics,
manipulating massive files, ripping multiple DVDs and installing a new
application — all simultaneously. The technology is crazy and
works at the speed I need.
The newly announced Fusion-io ioXtreme PCIe SSD, which purportedly
offers a Mean Time Before Failures (MTBF) of over two million hours is
set to begin shipping from July and will set you back a pretty hefty
(condidering the limited capacity on offer here) $895.
