PS3 Firmware v2.60 Update Detailed DixV 3.11 Support, Photo Gallery Application

Initial details concerning the up and coming firmware v2.60 update for
the PS3 have materialised confirming that Sony's new PS3 update is
primarily focused on expanding the console's multimedia capabilities,
courtesy of a new Photo Gallery application, as well as offering guest
access to the PlayStation Store.

The new v2.60 PS3 firmware update will bring a new suite of tools
offering users the ability to store and catalogue their digital photo
collections allowing imagery to be filed according to 'various criteria'
- with PlayStation Blog listing examples of such criteria being 'the
camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the
photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people
pictured'.

Further features of the new PS3 Photo Gallery application include the
ability to display slideshows of selected imagery arranged into
playlists with music soundtracks though the new Photo Gallery
application will, according to the above credited source, 'need to be
installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3's firmware'

Additionally its interesting to note that the new v2.60 PS3 firmware
update will, as well as offering guest access to the PlayStation Store
(allowing non-members to browse the store and see what's on offer) as
well as introduce DixV 3.11 video codec support to the PS3 - allowing
you to watch those dodgy movies you don't have on your TV directly via
the console.

NOTE: Originally referred to the v2.06 update - Doh! That'll teach me to
post after working all night! Sorry about the error guys and thanks to
Charles who was kind enough to let me know about it (thanks Charles!).
