Dmedia G5W 'Car-Navi' is on the verge of becoming available or is merely
at the prototype stage (we're certain it's the latter) there's no doubt
that the Dmedia G5W is worth a brief mention here on TFTS on account of
its purported integrated WiMax connectivity.
Information is, as you may have already gathered, somewhat on the sparse
side, but what is known is that the Dmedia G5W 'Car-Navi', apart from
boasting WiMax, comes with a 5' touchscreen, GPRS and EDGE modules,
Bluetooth connectivity and an FM transmitter along with GPS, obviously
and, in a PDF we've unearthed, is described thus (and we'll offer the
text in full as it's about all we have to worth with right now):
‘G5W works on the latest Prima with 2G of built in memory. Text to
speech and Voice command enable pleasant handling and operating while
navigating. Not only that it is perfect to be used as a digital photo
frame, mobile WiMAX turns your G5W into a portable IP TV, and will be
able to replace your in-car CD/DVD box by enabling broadband streaming
video and music on it. With the built in FM transmitter broadcasting the
sound through your car stereo, it truly gives you a spectacular
entertaining pleasure of video and music by simple a tap on the screen.
The open platform design structure enables possible functional services
input through the device itself.’
No word as at the time of writing concerning a release date or unit
pricing but you can rest assured that we'll be keeping our ear to the
ground.
