doubling the largest capacity so far available of 256GB - which is aimed
specifically for use with notebooks as well as gaming and home
entertainment systems, is based on 43 nanometer Multi-Level Cell NAND
technology and which is set to be officially unveiled at next years CES
09 event in Las Vegas.
The new SATA2 Toshiba 2.5' 512GB SSD, known merely by its model number
(THNS512GG8BB) is one of a range of new Toshiba second generation solid
state drives which range in capacity from 64GB to this 512GB unit and
are set to enter into mass production in the second quarter of '09.
Offering read speeds of up to 240MBps and write speeds up to 200MBps (in
sequential modes), the new Toshiba 512GB solid state drive utilises an
advanced MLC controller to allow for compatibility with 'further
advanced processors' as well as optimal read/write speeds as well as
optimised endurance. Additionally the new SSDs (including the 512GB
model) will also come complete with AES encryption technology.
'The solid state drive market is evolving rapidly, with higher
performance drives to meet market requirements, and differentiated
product families targeted for appropriate applications,' said Mr.
Kiyoshi Kobayashi, Vice President of Toshiba Corporation’s
Semiconductor Company, who introduced Toshiba's second-gen SSD range.
'This new 43nm SSD family balances value/performance characteristics for
its targeted consumer applications, through use of MLC NAND and an
advanced controller architecture.'
