SanDisk SlotMusic MicroSD Card Touted As ‘Innovative, New Physical Music Format’

Sandisk have announced what they term as being a 'new physical music
format for the 21st Century' in the form of the new SanDisk SlotMusic
MicroSD Card which will come preloaded with DRM-free MP3 music from the
likes of EMI Music, SONY BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music
Group.Set to become available via (notably) Wal-Mart and Best Buy in the
US, with a European roll-out following thereafter, SanDisk's SlotMusic
MicroSD Card's are an interesting take on the delivering of digital
audio content in physical format in an age where the majority of us have
become well versed with ordering (and immediately receiving) digital
music online and, in this respect, it'll be interesting to see quite to
whom this new medium will appeal.

According to SanDisk's press release, the SlotMusic cards, which offer
consumers 'an immediate, tangible, and high quality alternative to CDs
and digital delivery', will sport 1GB of capacity - allowing for high
quality MP3 files recorded as 320 kilobytes per second (kbps) to be
supplied along with possible video content - and will happily except
additional files should the end user wish to add to the music supplied
allowing them to create what SanDisk terms as being 'a personal
plug-and-play media library'.

No word as yet concerning specific release dates for either the US or
Europe or, for that matter, unit pricing but it is expected that the
pricing of SanDisk's new SlotMusic MicroSD Cards will be comparable to
that of CDs.
