on developing a new, updated version of its ever popular Nintendo DS
handheld gaming system that will, apparently, not only sport updated
styling but will also sport an integrated camera and DAP (Digital Audio
Player) functionality. The new DS - should it actually prove to exist -
is being seen as offering direct competition with handheld devices such
as those offered by Apple, Sony Ericsson and Nokia and, whilst Nintendo
have refused to confirm that a new, revamped DS is indeed in the
pipeline (interestingly, however, not did they deny it - preferring
merely to resort to offering no comment) there's little doubt that,
should the rumoured new DS prove to be real that it would not only build
substantially upon the DS's already formidable success but would
undoubtedly sell like the preverbal hot cakes.
If the Nikkei Business Daily's article is to be believed - and,
realistically, we see no reason to doubt its integrity - the new,
revamped DS, which is said to also feature advanced wireless
communication capabilities - could surface before the end of the year
with unit pricing in the region of ยฅ20,00 (approximately $189 at the
time of writing).
Do we believe that a new DS is in the works? Personally - and we'll put
it this way - we wouldn't bet against it.
