NEC LaVie Light BL100/RA Atom Powered Netbook Redefines Bland Styling

NEC have announced that they are set to take on the likes of Asus and
MSI in the increasingly lucrative netbook market with their new NEC
LaVie Light BL100/RA Atom powered netbook which, apart from offering a
fairly standard feature set (don't expect the NEC LaVie Light's specs to
overwhelm you) packaged in what is, quite possibly, one of the most
aesthetically unappealing netbooks we've come across.Styled with all the
panache of a house brick, NEC's LaVie Light comes with a 8.9' TFT
sporting 1024×600 resolution, 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 1GD of DDR2
SDRAM, a 160GB SATA HDD, integrated Intel GMA950 graphics chipset and,
naturally, you can also factor in 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity, an
integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam and an SD card slot.

Whether, in bringing nothing of particular note to the table in such a
gloriously unstylish package the NEC LaVie Light BL100/RA will actually
serve to send shockwaves though the HQ's of Asus and MSI is, of course,
open to pure speculation but we certainly know what side of the fence
we're sitting on.

Set to be released in Japan from 6 November pricing of the NEC LaVie
Light netbook remains, as yet, undisclosed, but when an item of gadgetry
looks as dull as this we can only hope that it'll be provided with a
case allowing you to tuck it quietly out of sight should you spot
someone you know headed in your direction when using it.
