And Now& Energy Generating Revolving Doors

It’s always a pleasure to learn about research into energy saving
measures and how we can help conserve and save precious energy through
simple day-to-day activities. To further this cause, Boon Edam have
introduced the world’s first energy producing revolving door. The
idea is simplicity itself, basically a generator is attached to the
revolving door and it produces energy when pushed by people stepping in
or out of the Driebergen-Zeist railway station in The Netherlands. The
railway station is a busy place with a daily capacity for 8500
commuters, all of them passing through the revolving door contribute to
an energy saving of around 4600 kWh per year.

The energy produced is used to illuminate the revolving doors with
low-energy LED lights. Since moving away from fossil fuels is high on
the list of many administrations, this idea of producing electricity
using human energy is sure to receive positive reviews.

The cool thing about this concept is that it is a simple idea with great
scope for endless replication all over the world. If human energy
expended is activities can be used to run small dynamos or generators
then the cumulative energy production will have a huge impact on the
amount of clean energy produced globally.
