featured (and insanely desirable) Thompson Symbio featured earlier, this
OpenFrame Touch Screen Home Smart Phone from OpenPeak, like the Symbio,
serves to push the boundaries and capabilities of home phone setups
beyond that of merely being a phone much in the same way as cell phones
have long since evolved from serving as mere handsets.
At the time of writing detail is very much on the sparse side on account
of the device being a concept but what we can confirm is that OpenPeak's
OpenFrame WVGA touchscreen device serves as both an standard and a VoiP
telephone (no mention of Skype compatibly or which service this device
actually utilises for VoiP calling) whilst also sporting multimedia hub
capabilities (allowing the device to play digital music files and serve
as a digital photo frame) and offering internet access for up to the
minute news, travel and weather information as well as accessing video
and music sites.
And, as if this wasn't enough, the device will also act as an electronic
memo pad (written and voice), an appointments manager/calendar, to-do
scheduler and full address book - all of which, we assume, can be
synchronised with Outlook, etc (though this is pure speculation on our
parts). Interestingly enough, however, there's no mention on e-mail
capabilities.
No word on pricing or availability as, from what we can make out from
the site, the device is very much at the concept stage at the time of
writing, however, we'll be keeping a firm eye on developments in the
hope that detailed specifications are made available in the short term
should the device ever make it off the drawing board - and you can rest
assured that, the moment more information becomes available, assuming it
does, we'll offer an update here on TFTS.
