as the successor to Wi-Fi) enabled version of its popular Asus Aspire
5920 notebook is already being manufactured and will be made available
initially via Sprint Nextel, and subsequently other networks, much in
the same way as cell phones are sold via contact and service plans.
PC World reports that Quanta Computer have been contracted to
manufacture Asus's new WiMax Aspire 5920 notebooks which, apart from
offering wireless connectivity at broadband speeds, sports a 2.5GHz Core
2 Duo CPU, 320GB HDD, GeForce 8600M GS video card and integrated Blu-ray
optical drive.
The new WiMax Aspire 5920 will be made available, specifically, via
Sprint's Xohm service and is expected to be released in sync with the
final roll out of the WiMax network sometime this summer.
Pricing and the specific service plans to be made available are yet to
be confirmed at the time of writing.
