Motorola Droid Announced in Germany as the Milestone Buy the Droid from O2 Germany on November 9; Italy to Follow

It s a brand new week and the buzz around Motorola s second Android
phone, the Droid, is still going strong. The phone is going to be
available in Verizon Wireless stores starting with November 6, but you
might have pre-ordered already it from Best Buy. But what about the rest
of the world?
We asked that question a while ago and we had a partial answer. A GSM
version of the Droid has been spotted in Vietnam last week and we
imagined that other markets will get the smartphone soon. Well the phone
is ready to be sold in some European countries even sooner than expected.
O2 is the official carrier that will bring the carrier to Germany. The
phone has appeared on O2 s website and on Motorola Germany s website.
The Droid has been confirmed and it will be available starting with
November 9. The full price for the phone is EUREUR481 but you can get it
for just EUR1 provided that you select a new 2-year contract of at least
EUR20 per month.
The Droid shall be known as the Motorola Milestone, but who cares about
the name of the device? Well, maybe we should care! Not because we like
the Droid better than the Milestone but because Apple s iPhone doesn t
change names when going to a different market. The point is that maybe a
hit phone like the Droid should have the same name no matter what
continent you ll find it on. But then again the Droid is the name chosen
by Verizon. If it were up to Motorola we would have been talking about
the Sholes right about now.
As you can see in the pictures here, Vodafone is also presented as a
potential carrier. We have no precise details but we ll probably see the
Milestone available in various European markets and top carriers like
Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile or O2 will definitely want to sell it. Italy
is also rumored to get the Milestone, or whatever they will call it over
there, but we don t know the specifics yet.
