Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Not Banned in Russia, But Censored Russian Version of Modern Warfare 2 to Lose the Moscow Airport Scene

Biggest entertainment launch in history, surpassing its predecessor
Grand Theft Auto IV, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has managed
to sell 4.7 million copies in the US and the UK only in the first 24
hours, accounting for the most profitable games of all times. But as
good as the reviews may seem, there has been some bad press surrounding
the new Modern Warfare 2, when word got out that Russia banned the
console version.
Apparently, the amazing scenes of brutality at the Moscow Airport
— which involves gunning down unarmed civilians at the Moscow
Airport, has been the reason why the Russian authorities have taken the
unpleasant measures. However, game developer Infinity Ward and publisher
Activision have officially announced that the multi-million unit selling
game hasn't received a ban in Russia.
Reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been banned in Russia
are erroneous. Activision only released a PC version of the game in
Russia which went on sale on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
More to it, it was actually Activision who took a preemptive step in
censoring the PC version of the game, by removing a scene that could've
offended an entire country. It looks like the console version of the
game won't be released until it gets the same treatment as the PC version.
