should be considering recent rumors regarding some of Apple s upcoming
desktops. Today we re looking at the Xeon Mac Pro which is rumored to
arrive in 2010 with a lot of interesting specs. The price, of course,
hasn t been leaked yet.
Sure a desktop is not as interesting at this time compared with an
all-in-one iMac or an ultraportable Mac Mini. And let s not forget that
Windows 7 is in the house! Or at least it will be next week and
everybody in the computer business already has new products ready to be
launched in the upcoming weeks. And among these desktops you ll find
decent all-in-one PCs equipped with touchscreen displays.
So why should anyone buy the Xeon Mac Pro? According to unconfirmed
rumors the new Xeon Mac Pro Apple has big plans for the desktop. Here
are some of the features said to be found in the next Xeon Mac Pro:
6-core 12-thread Intel Xeon processor with 32nm processes and 12MB of
shared cache
Up to 128GB of RAM
10Gbit/s Ethernet connectivity
Custom motherboard with support for 8GB and 16GB memory modules
Low voltage CPU
What do you say now? You have to admit that a hexacore processor and up
to 128GB of RAM sound more than interesting. Think of all the cool
tricks your desktop could be doing at the same time for you! Could you
refuse such a machine?
Well, sure you could! First of all it s an Apple product and although it
inspires confidence it is also coming with a higher price. Considering
the harsh economic times, spending a lot on money on a desktop might not
be quite a good idea. Instead you can choose an all-in-one solution from
the competition. Windows Vista will surely die in the near future and
Windows 7 is a much better OS version. Secondly, let s not forget that a
desktop is not that portable. So you ll also want to buy a netbook
and/or a laptop to be able to work while on the go. Why not replace the
desktop with a powerful but ultraportable laptop instead? That way you
ll be able to take all your precious information with you at all times,
and keep working on the go.
We ll have this discussion in the future as soon as the Xeon Mac Pro
will be confirmed.
