Philips Launches PET744 Portable DVD Player 180-Degree Swivel, 7-in Screen, 6-Hour Battery

I have never really been that into the portable DVD player thing. I bet
that is has something to do with the fact that I don't have kids and I
have a laptop that does the same thing with a much better screen.
Anyway, the folks at Philips are looking to hit a homerun with their
latest device, the PET744 portable DVD player.

Philips has just announced the launch of its latest portable DVD player,
the PET744, and they are hoping that its unique design and additional
features will have parents everywhere scrambling to get their hands on
them. The portable DVD player sports a two-in-one, 180-degree swivel
screen design, which means it can be used either as a clamshell or a
tablet-style device. It features a 7-inch display with a high-resolution
(800 x 480) widescreen LCD display and a decent six-hour battery life.

The Philips PET744 also includes a remote control, smart car mount and
in-car charger. Two stereo jacks will allow for the use of two
independent sets of headphones so you won't have to listen to your brats
beating each other up for the lone pair of listening devices; not to
mention Sponge Bob Squarepants won't drive you completely insane.

The unit also has two built-in speakers and can also play content from
CDs, SD/SDHC memory cards or via a USB connector. Format playback
encompasses DivX, MPEG 4, DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, SVCD, Video CD and
Picture CD for video and CD, CD-RW, MP3-CD, CD-R and WMA for audio.

The PET744 goes on sale sometime in August with an estimated selling
price of 149GBP (about $253).
