NTT DoCoMo Touch Wood Mobiles Announced

Being green seems to be a trend these days. Another company to jump on
the eco-friendly bandwagon is NTT DoCoMo who have recently announced two
new prototype mobile phones that will be crafted from wood, but not any
kind of wood. Only excess wood resulted from thinning operations that
ensure a healthy forest will be used to build the two handsets.

The new prototypes are the result of a joint venture lead by NTT DoCoMo
together with Sharp, Olympus and More Trees — a reforestation
project in Japan. Dubbed the Wooden Phones, both models are made from
cypress wood and have a water resistant body. Yes we know it sounds
pretty weird for a wooden phone to resist water (it actually resists
insects and mildew), but it's Olympus' 3D compression molding technology
that makes it possible.
