AT T might have lost the first battle in court (and we told you about
the denied injunction last week) but the carrier is not going to stop
fighting AT T. The carrier keeps rolling out those ads featuring Luke
Wilson and we might see a lot more in the following weeks. For some
reason AT T has chosen him to tell people the truth about 3G so let s
see how well he performs.
The new ads are not related to AT T s 3G network. It seems that the
carrier is still under the impression that consumers aren t aware of the
coverage it offers within the USA. That s why they hired Luke Wilson to
set the record straight. AT T is clearly responding to Verizon s
There s a Map for That and there s no doubt about it. Luke Wilson
starts everything off by saying that recently Verizon has been making a
big deal about maps and it s his role to fix that. What follows is
pretty boring and less fun than expected part of the commercial. He
shows us that AT T covers 97% of the USA or about 300,000,000 million
potential customers. You must have seen the new ads already. They are
two 30-second clips in which Luke Wilson enumerates all the places
covered by AT T s network.
In order to enhance the effect of AT T s network, Apple has also come up
with a few ads that are meant to fight off Verizon while defending the
official iPhone carrier in the USA. Coincidentally, Apple has two new
ads two. And Apple shows us what one can do while talking on the iPhone.
Sure you can check your email, browse the Internet, access applications
while talking on the phone. The point that Apple makes is pretty clear.
AT T s network will let you both talk with your friends and family while
browsing the Internet. That s a feature that Verizon s network doesn t
have. But will Verizon answer in any way to this new approach? Apple s
commercials end with an even clearer hit at AT T Can your phone and
your network do that? Naturally, Verizon will have to find a good
answer to that question.
The new Apple ads will be available tonight during the show House on
Fox, Dancing With the Stars on ABC and How I Met Your Mother on CBS.
Let us know what you think about Apple s and AT T s way of responding to
Verizon s previous campaigns.
