Archos have acted to confirm that shipping of its latest tablet PC, the
Archos 9, is now set to be delayed with those who have pre-ordered the
Archos 9 now having to wait till next month before potentially getting
their hands on the 8.9 Windows 7 powered UMPC. And, it s worse news
still if you haven t pre-ordered as its not not set to hit shelves until
2010.
Originally set to hit retail on October 22nd, there s been no official
word concerning what has caused the Archos 9 s release to be delayed but
Archos have confirmed that pre-orders will not commence shipping now
until early December whilst the device won t become available via other
means (such as online portals like Amazon and high street stores) until
sometime in Q1 next year.
Of course this may transpire to be somewhat of a nail in the coffin as
far as the Archos 9 Tablet PC is concerned as Intel are scheduled to
roll out their new Atom CPUs sometime in the new year which will really
serve to undermine the new Archos tablet which comes powered by a 1.1GHz
Atom Z515. At that juncture we suspect that Archos will have to make one
of two somewhat unpalatable choices " either drop the price of the
Archos 9 rather significantly or accept that sales will doubtless be
impacted.
Either ways, one thing s for sure " that whatever the hold up is, it
must be for a pretty significant reason (and one that Archos would
rather not talk about, which is telling in itself).
