We brought you the announcement last week about MSI s foray into the
AMD-powered laptop market with the launch of their new MSI X410
ultraportable laptop and it would appear that they aren t done with the
fun just yet. In an apparent move to strengthen their non-Intel product
offerings, MSI announced today that they would be launching a new
ultrathin laptop, the MSI X-Slim X610. The new machine is based on the
AMD Congo platform and powered by an AMD Athlon processor.
Well, it just might be official. Thin is the new black. MSI announced
today that they are preparing to release yet another AMD-powered laptop
PC and have dubbed it the X-Slim X610. The new machine is basically a
redux of their already-available X600 notebook in which they ve stripped
out the Intel Core 2 CPU and related mainboard and replaced them with
AMD's Congo platform and an Athlon Neo processor.
The new X-Slim X610 has retained a number of the better features of the
X600 including 15.6-in, 1366×768 resolution screen, ultrathin 1-in
thickness and slight sub-five pound weight. It also has the same 6-cell
Li-ion battery. Also, as in the X600, the focus appears to be on low
power consumption. The new X610 uses only 15W, which is only about 40%
of what a traditional laptop PC consumes under the same conditions. MSI
has also worked in it other power-saving technologies, under the ECO
name, allowing users to select between sever usage-specific modes of
operation all of which tailor the units power consumption based on the
application (i.e. movie, game, presentation, word processing, and turbo).
Rounding out the multimedia package of the MSI X610 are ATI's 512MB
Mobility Radeon HD 4330 3D discrete graphic chipset along with four
integrated 2nd-generation Dolby-certified speakers, optional Blu-ray
player and HDMI output. Several HDD configurations are available
including 320GB, 500GB or 640GB capacities and 2GB of RAM is standard
along with the option to kick it up to 4GB. All system configurations
come pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium and integrated 1.3MP
webcam. Communications standards include wi-fi and Gigabyte Ethernet.
Bluetooth is offered as an option.
Unfortunately, we don t have any information to share with you on the
official release date or pricing, so you ll have to stay tuned for the
update.
