which was, at that juncture, the first to boast Nvidia's Ion chipset
pairing Intel's Atom N270 CPU with Nvidia's 9400M GPU but now, for those
who are happy to forgo a little processing clout for a more modest price
tag, Lenovo are set to offer a revised IdeaPad S12 which shuns the Atom
CPU/Ion chipset (which is far from a cheap option) in favour of a VIA
Nano processor.
Whilst little appears to be in the wild concerning the overall
specifications of the new, cheaper Lenovo IdeaPad S12 netbook its
appears to offer in essence all the same functionality as its
predecessor albeit tucking a rather more sedate, and thu cheaper, CPU
under the hood, such as the same 12.1 LED backlit display, 2GB of RAM a
1.3 megapixel webcam and 250GB hard disk.
Aimed specifically at those looking for an ultraportable for non-CPU
intensive, non-resource hungry applications such as browsing the net,
the cutback Lenovo IdeaPad S12 is set initially for the Taiwanese market
and comes in at the equivalent $455.
There's no word concerning whether the somewhat more wallet friendly VIA
Nano powered Lenovo IdeaPad S12 netbook will see a wider international
rollout at this stage.
