Corsair Extreme Series SSD Range Announced Corsair Extreme X32, X64 & X128 SSDs

Corsair have gotten official concerning their new Extreme Series of
solid state drives with three new SSDs announced - the Corsair Extreme
Series X32, X64 and X128 offering 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities
respectively - which Corsair bill as offering 'the highest performance
currently available on the market' thanks to the drives touting read
speeds of up to 240MB/s and write speeds of up to 170MB/s (which,
incidentally, falls way below the 260MB/s read and 210MB/s write speeds
offered by the previously featured OCZ Vertex Turbo SSDs, but who are we
to quibble?).
Employing the Indilinx Barefoot controller and Samsung's MLC NAND flash
memory, the new Corsair Extreme Series SSDs come with 64MB of on-board
cache, utilise the SATA II interface and, interestingly come with
end-user upgradable firmware allowing users to update their SSD to take
advantage of any future performance hikes as well as the upcoming TRIM
command for Windows 7 and other operating systems.

The combination of the Indilinx Barefoot controller, Samsung flash
memory, and 64MB of on-board cache delivers blistering, stutter-free
performance, eliminating the bottleneck imposed by traditional
mechanical hard disks, said Jim Carlton, VP of Marketing at Corsair who
introduced the new Corsair Extreme Series SSDs. The new Extreme Series
SSDs are ideal for use as primary drives in desktop and notebooks
systems, and also for RAID 0 configurations in high-performance desktops
for enthusiasts who want extreme performance.

Corsair are yet to officially confirm pricing of the new X32, X64 and
X128 Extreme Series SSDs though unconfirmed reports indicate that the
128GB capacity model will come in at around $414 whilst the 64GB and
32GB capacity models will be priced at around $160 and $250 respectively.
