Sub-Monitor and now, seemingly set to compete directly with this USB
supplementary display, Samsung have unveiled their SyncMaster U70 USB
Sub-Monitor which offers slightly less real estate, 7″ to be
exact, but which sports the same 800 x 480 screen resolution as the Plus
One LCD-8000U.
Seemingly based on one of Samsung’s digital photo frames
(specifically the SPF-U70), the Samsung SyncMaster U70, like the
LCD-8000U, simply hooks up to your PC/notebook/laptop courtesy of USB
meaning that you can add more than the one, should you wish (and should
you have the free USB ports and a computer that can handle the
additional strain of running multiple displays).
Especially handy for those who yearn for a little extra desktop real
estate (I could do with one myself, in honesty) the Samsung SyncMaster
U70 USB Sub-Monitor offers just Windows compatibility (unlike the
LCD-8000U it will not play ball with Macs, unfortunately), comes with
400:1 contrast ratio, 200 cd/m2 brightness and 30ms response time.
No pricing details at present but we’ll keep our combined ears to
the ground as I’m considering a purchase should it actually hit
the UK.
