Canon EOS Rebel XS 10MP Entry Level DSLR Camera US Pricing & Availability Announced [EOS Rebel XS US Bound]

Canon have announced the US pricing and availability of its new entry
level DSLR, the 10 megapixel Canon EOS Rebel XS, which is billed as
serving as and affordable 'digital powerhouse' bridging camera designed
'to help photographers cross over from the world of point-and-shoot
cameras to digital SLR technology' and is built around Canon's much
acclaimed DIGIC III processor.

Whist not quite in the same league as the previously posted and
startlingly desirable (and therefore expensive) Hasselblad H3DII-50 Pro
DSLR (a top end camera offering a 50MP sensor) there's no doubt that
Canon's EOS Rebel XS is an impressive device. Apart from sporting a
10.1-megapixel CMOS Sensor, Canon's EOS Rebel XS comes with auto
Lighting Optimizer for shadow/highlight control, high-speed wide area
seven point auto focus, up to 3fps continuous shooting (offering bursts
of up to 514 JPEGs or 5 RAW files), integrated EOS Cleaning System to
clean dust from the sensor surface using ultrasonic vibration and, quite
possibly the icing on the cake, is compatible with all Canon lenses in
the EF and EF-S lineup, ranging from ultra-wide angle to super telephoto
lenses.

Due to become available in the US from August (08), the Canon EOS Rebel
XS will be offered as a zoom lens kit with the EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
zoom lens, a rechargeable battery pack and charger, USB and video cables
for around $700 or a standard EOS Rebel XS kit (camera body only) with
the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens as an optional item for around a
highly competitive $200.
