Art Lebedev Optimus Maximus OLED Keyboard Now Shipping Pre-Ordered Units

Following a series of highly publicised delays and having sustained a
level of hype that even the likes of Apple must surly be envious of, Art
Lebedev's Optimus Maximus - which we first reported on as far back in
early November '06 - has finally begun shipping to customers who
pre-ordered the OLED keyed device according to latest reports.

For those unfamiliar with Art Lebedev's Optimus Maximus the keyboard
features keys consisting of individual OLED displays which are capable
of adapting to display functions related to software (such as Photoshop)
courtesy of the Configurator software - which, incidentally, is also now
available for download - and can be purchased for anything from $462 to
$1560 depending on how many active OLED keys are included with passive,
non-OLED keys on the cheaper models, which are due to begin shipping
next month, being replaceable with active OLED keys as and when you can
afford them.

It's been an extremely rocky development path for the Optimus Maximus so
we look forward to the first user testimonials appearing on the net soon
- assuming that, having doubtless sold several internal organs on the
black market in order to afford the keyboard their new owners are still
capable of mustering enough strength to report back.
