Sony NWD-B100 Network Walkman – At Last, No ATRAC

I am sure that I’m not the only one who simply stopped even considering Sony MP3 players on account of their extremely aggravating ATRAC reliance. Don’t get me wrong, we love Sony products and have owned several Walkmans, several Sony Mini Disc Players (a much under rated format in our opinion) and they have all been impressive pieces of kit – but ATRAC and Sonic Stage were a nightmare.
Thankfully, it seems as that Sony have been listing to the many dissenters and have at last binned ATRAC and Sonic Stage with their new Network Walkman, the gloriously titled NWD-B100.

The NWD-B100, which is MP3 and WMA compatible only, is a flash memory based player and comes complete with a three line LCD display, voice memo function and an inbuilt FM radio tuner is available with either 1GB or 2GB of storage and has a purported battery life of around 12 hours.
The Sony NWD-B100 Network Walkman should be available around August in the UK but, as yet, there are no details concerning US availability timescales.
